The 26th World Coffee Science Congress held in Yunnan with world experts to promote the development of Yunnan coffee
According to Hu Lu, vice president of Yunnan Coffee Industry Association, the theme of this conference is "sharing the scientific progress of coffee". The main venue of the conference is located in Kunming, and there are two sub-venues in Dehong City and Chongqing. The World Coffee Science Conference, which is held every two years, is known as the "Olympic" event of the coffee industry. it is the only, most influential and authoritative international conference in the world coffee industry. The 26th World Coffee Science Congress aims to promote Yunnan coffee, popularize coffee scientific knowledge, spread coffee culture, and enhance the competitiveness and voice of Chinese coffee in the international market. China began to bid for the 26th World Coffee Science Congress in early 2013. The China Coffee Engineering Research Center reported its application to the board of directors of ASIC many times and invited representatives of the board of directors of ASIC to visit and study in Yunnan, China. On February 19, 2014, the board of directors of ASIC sent a delegation to inspect Kunming, Dehong, Baoshan and Pu'er in detail for a week, and then reported the opinions to the board of directors of ASIC. In September 2014, during the 25th World Coffee Science Congress held in Colombia, the China Coffee Engineering Research Center signed a memorandum of understanding with the board of directors of ASIC. The board of directors of ASIC announced at the conference that China had been granted the right to host the 26th World Coffee Science Congress, which would be held in Yunnan, China.
During the conference, experts from the United States, France, Germany, Britain, Switzerland and other countries will present the latest scientific research reports and brilliant keynote speeches on global coffee. There are also coffee exhibitions and sales activities in Continental Hotel in Kunming, where citizens will have the opportunity to learn about many coffee brands at home and abroad and feel different coffee customs. At the same time, the "first Asian Coffee Annual meeting" and "Chinese Coffee Night" will be held at the Mangshi branch venue, and the groundbreaking ceremony of the "10,000-ton Coffee Industry Park" will also be held as scheduled in Chongqing.
At present, all the work of the conference is ready, it is confirmed that about 400 delegates from nearly 60 countries and regions have completed registration and received more than 500 scientific papers; well-known brands Nestle, UCC, illy, Hougu and others will also participate in the conference.
Coffee in China has a history of 100 years. By the beginning of 2016, the planting area of coffee in China exceeded 1.8 million mu, with a total output of more than 140000 tons, accounting for 1.5% of the total global output. Yunnan coffee planting area is 1.77 million mu, with a total output of 139000 tons. Yunnan coffee planting area and output account for more than 99% of the country, coffee has become the third largest export of Yunnan to earn foreign exchange characteristics of the plateau commodity.
China is one of the countries with the fastest growth of coffee consumption in the world. at present, the national coffee consumption is 150 billion, and the consumption is about 130000 tons, which is far from the annual consumption of 800000 tons in neighboring Japan and South Korea. However, China's coffee consumption is growing at an annual rate of 20%, which is much higher than the 2% growth rate in the world. China's coffee consumption market has a huge space. Some experts predict that the potential space for China's mature coffee consumption market is 3-4 trillion yuan. It is estimated that by 2020, China's coffee consumption will exceed 200000 tons, with a consumption of more than 300 billion yuan. China is expected to become one of the largest coffee consumption markets in the world.
Yunnan has a unique ecological environment, and its climatic conditions are similar to those of Colombia, mostly at a high altitude of 8-1600 meters, which is conducive to the production of fine coffee. After many cup tests and comparisons by SCAA experts, it is proved that the quality of coffee beans in Yunnan is comparable to that of coffee in high altitude areas of Central America.
Yunnan small seed coffee has always been famous for its high-quality coffee raw materials, but its low performance-to-price ratio and the scarcity of local brands have not brought its huge development potential into full play. Xiong Xiangren, chairman of Dehong Hougu Coffee Co., Ltd., said, "the development of Yunnan coffee must make efforts in strengthening international cooperation, striving to achieve scientific coffee planting and processing, and actively building a national brand of Yunnan coffee." The 26th World Coffee Science Congress is regarded by the industry as a booster for the development of China's coffee industry to a new level.
