Domestic and foreign scholars share the progress of coffee science and technology

More than 400 coffee industry experts and scholars from nearly 60 countries and regions gathered with coffee producers, entrepreneurs and scientific and technological workers in China to discuss the scientific issues of coffee production, consumption and industrial development, and share the progress of coffee science and technology. From November 13 to 17, the 26th World Coffee Science Congress was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province. More than 400 coffee industry experts and scholars from nearly 60 countries and regions gathered with coffee producers, entrepreneurs and scientific and technological workers in China to discuss the scientific issues of coffee production, consumption and industrial development, and share the progress of coffee science and technology.

The World Coffee Science Conference is the highest standard event in the world coffee industry, which represents the highest voice of the industry, and is also regarded as the "Olympics" of the world coffee industry. The conference was hosted by the World Coffee Science and Information Association and the China Coffee Engineering Research Center. Ms. Nelig, president of the World Coffee Science Congress, and Zhang Yaping, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.

With "sharing the progress of coffee science and technology" as the theme of the meeting, 14 special academic reports were held on the topics of coffee chemistry, coffee agriculture and biotechnology, coffee agro-ecology and breeding, coffee consumption and human physiology, coffee genomics and genetics, coffee roasting and its technological process. The purpose of the Congress is to evaluate and exchange innovative scientific and technological knowledge of coffee, encourage research on coffee in all relevant scientific fields, establish a scientific and practical knowledge base, encourage and coordinate research on the coffee industry chain, improve coffee quality and seek the common interests of coffee producers, traders, processors and consumers.

In China, coffee growing provinces are mainly in Yunnan, Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi and other places. With the continuous maturity of the domestic coffee market and the domestic coffee industry chain, coffee in Yunnan Province has been planted in 9 prefectures, cities, 35 counties and districts, including Pu'er City and Baoshan City, with a planting area of 1.83 million mu and a total output of 132000 tons, accounting for more than 95% of the country. Coffee has become the third largest export-earning plateau commodity in Yunnan.
