The freedom to choose who to love, what to do, and what to look forward to is the best gift the world can give us.

Last fall, I spent two days driving on US Highway 1, quietly driving, watching the sea and listening to music. In retrospect, it was a good emotional placebo.

Not long ago, I wrote an article about the United States for the National Tourism Administration, "maybe with these 13 App, you can easily explore the United States." it accidentally wrote thousands of words, but later it had to be deleted because of limited space. One of the paragraphs that I deleted at that time, which I like very much, is about the cafes along Highway 1, which are shared with you today.

Last September, I got my international driver's license in Jeju Island. Not long after flying to the United States, after dealing with work and life, began to travel, the United States, East and West stayed a total of one month. When I was in the United States, I had been renting a car, and when I just got my driver's license, I encountered a lot of embarrassment when driving: my car keys were stupid enough to be locked in the trunk, and at night I had to squat on the side of the road and wait for the lock company to open the lock at a high price; unwittingly, I was forced to stop by 50% of the speed limit on the highway, and then I called the court to pay a high fine, and so on, all of which were very much like the embarrassing scenes in the movie.

The most unforgettable memory is driving US Highway 1. Start from San Francisco early in the morning and drive south on Highway 1, which borders the Pacific Ocean. Arrive in Monterey in the evening, go to the Monterey Jazz Festival (Monterey Jazz Festival), which bought tickets six months in advance, attend the festival, and spend the night at an Airbnb with stars on the hilltop of the small town of Carmel. Get up early the next morning, continue to drive along the coast, all the way south, and arrive in Los Angeles in the evening.

Monterey Jazz Festival

There are some rules for American highways, as long as the odd number is in the north-south direction, while the even number is in the east-west direction, with highway numbers from low to high from the west coastline to the East China Sea coastline. So Highway 1 means a north-south highway at the westernmost end, with California's beautiful seaside-the Pacific Ocean on one side and the high Rocky Mountains on the other.

This road along the Pacific coast extends north from Mexico to northern California, so, as mentioned before, this time we drove from San Francisco to Monterrey to Los Angeles.

Monterey is the oldest city in California, known as the most beautiful peninsula in California, and the capital of California in Spanish and Mexican times for 70 years, and we started driving on that day in large part because the American Jazz Festival was held in Monterey on that day.

Monterey's most famous self-driving section is 17-Mile Drive, which is famous for its pure natural scenery. There are no obvious signs on the highway, but there are different caves after driving in. There are gentle beaches, steep rock walls, lawns and forests. The key is that there are exquisite luxury villas on the roadside, all of which are scenery on the road.

The designer of Highway 1 is very considerate. As long as it is a place with beautiful scenery, there will always be one more place for tourists to stop and browse for photos, so that the road with only two lanes will not be blocked. What's more, tourists will not regret missing the beautiful scenery, and they can often see some craftsmen painting landscapes on Highway 1.

To give you some Tips, I think a few things are essential: 1) drive safely;2) slow down and enjoy the scenery;3) hydrate;4) protect yourself from the sun.

Back to today's topic, three cities along the way, there are my favorite cafes, and to say my favorite American city, is San Francisco, the city is small, close to the sea, there is Silicon Valley IT vitality, but also artistic atmosphere, and walk everywhere you can meet Fancy cafes, some with Nordic style, some with Japanese style, and typical American style, are very interesting.

So, 15 cafes on Route 1, starting in San Francisco, going to Palo Alto in the Bay Area, then Los Angeles, and finally we ended up in a century-old restaurant in Monterey.

San Francisco| Sightglass

Twitter founder invests in art cafe

Twitter founder Jack Dorsey invested in "Sightglass Coffee", no computer power socket, no WIFI, fusion of Nordic and Japanese elements, comfortable to sit quietly reading a book in the afternoon.

In his shop, there is a bean dryer directly, which can intuitively feel the process of turning coffee beans into coffee.

What I like most is the floor design of his house. The small tiles are made into a beautiful color and a full sense of science, which has become the label of the visit.

Classic Logo

The star collision rate here is very high, and maybe in front of you is Mark, the founder of "Facebook". You see, in San Francisco, you can see the ordinary side of shining people at will.

San Francisco | Dandelion Chocolate

A chocolate factory in a busy neighborhood

I prefer to call this place a "chocolate factory". In the busy neighborhood, there is a chocolate shop with the beautiful name "dandelion".

Wooden signboards of shops

Chocolate production area

In the shop, the front half of the street, you can drink coffee and taste all kinds of freshly baked chocolate; the second half is the chocolate production area, you can stand there to observe how the workers make all kinds of delicious chocolate, the production process is rigorous, I am very fascinated.

This store also has a special chocolate Tour, and professionals will explain the types of chocolate, production process and other chocolate knowledge for you.

Dandelion Chocolate address: 740 Valencia St (btwn 18th & 19th St), San Francisco, CA 94110

San Francisco | Blue Bottle

Blue bottles that are popular all over America

Blue Bottle's blue bottle logo can be seen everywhere, not only in San Francisco, but also in New York. Blue bottle, one of the third wave of independent coffee in the United States, currently has more than 20 stores in the United States, whether it is the trendy neighborhood, the Twitter downstairs full of Nerd flavor, or Ferry Building, which is loved by life lovers.

Of course, even if its store does not have enough comfortable and spacious space, it will not affect the long line of fans at all.

Blue Bottle

Address: 315 Linden St (btwn Gough & Octavia St), San Francisco, CA 94102

San Francisco | Hollow

The retro cafe on the corner

I have never seen a more "street" feeling than this cafe. Retro decoration, narrow space, mini pocket lovely. However, if the area of his coffee is evaluated, the quality is unexpected. Both Espresso and his desserts are very serious and lovable, especially Oatmeal Cake, which is meticulous, soft and delicious.

Hollow

Address: 1435 Irving St (btwn 15th & 16th Ave), San Francisco, CA 94122

San Francisco | Saint Frank

Nordic extremely simple wind

Here is praised by "Foursquare" as the best hand-brewed coffee in the city. You can drink four kinds of hot hand brew for as little as $7. In addition to hand brewing, his almond milk latte is also worth a try.

The minimalist decoration style also makes the store distinctive and memorable.

San Francisco | Universal Cafe

Eat a Brunch leisurely.

Universal Cafe

Palo Alto | Coupa Caf é

A testing ground for Silicon Valley startups

The cafe is located in Palo Alto, the most expensive part of Silicon Valley, with quiet streets, beautiful houses and Jobs' old home.

This cafe is a testing ground for many start-ups in Silicon Valley. When I went there, there was a small box on every table. When I looked at it carefully, I knew that a new startup was promoting it. The project that the startup company did was called "Downtown" scanning QR code to download App, you can order and pay on App, you can automatically identify the table number, and of course there is a discount. It's like, when Bitcoin is most popular, you can buy coffee with Bitcoin in this cafe, which is very interesting.

Coupa Caf é

Address: 538 Ramona St (btwn Hamilton & University), CA 94301

Los Angeles | Caf é Gratitude

Jason Mraz invests and is often patronized by Hollywood stars

As in China, Hollywood stars often invest in restaurants. For example, Cafe Gratitude LA, a cafe invested by Jason Mraz, is very distinctive: it promotes health themes, features a lot of fruit and vegetable juice, and simple decoration, which makes it particularly popular with Hollywood stars.

Caf é Gratitude

Address: 639 N Larchmont Blvd (at Melrose Ave), Los Angeles CA 90004

Los Angeles | Stumptown Coffee Roasters

Netizens voted for the first place

This is the number one cafe in Los Angeles selected by vote on "Foursquare". The simple decoration does not set up too many tables and chairs. I hope people will come here to buy coffee and take it away, but you think it is wrong for its coffee to be simple and casual. The ice drop coffee in this shop is very high quality, superb skills and single-origin coffee beans are prerequisites to ensure good coffee here. The coffee roaster behind the glass wall, can clearly watch the coffee production process, is a kind of interesting experience.

Stumptown Coffee Roasters

Address: 806 S Santa Fe Ave (at E 7th St), Los Angeles, CA 90021

Los Angeles | Urth caf é

It's rare to see a coffee shop with free parking.

The food in this restaurant is made entirely of organic ingredients, including coffee. It's great to have an American breakfast here. The point is, free parking is great.

Urth caf é

Address: 451S Hewitt St (at 5th St.), Los Angeles, CA 90013

Los Angeles | Blacktop Coffee

A cafe with a sense of neighborhood

This is not a suitable cafe for work and chat, because there is no WIFI and enough tables and chairs, but it does not affect the popularity of its coffee among young people. Quickly order a cup of Espresso or Cappuccino, and then order a simple food, making the shop more like a neighborhood coffee shop, close, natural, no distance.

Blacktop Coffee

Address: 826E 3rd St (S Garry St), Los Angeles, CA 90013

Los Angeles | Cafe Demitasse

I'd like to try the siphon pot.

Siphon pot coffee is the most ordered coffee in the family, but don't ignore its desserts, from macarons to pumpkin pie to Afu Gado iced coffee.

Cafe Demitasse

Address: 135 S San Pedro St (at 2nd St), Los Angeles, CA 90012, USA

Los Angeles | Verve Coffee

The most famous is the colorful fruit juice

A large number of plants and logs design, so that the characteristics of this cafe is very obvious: natural and fresh. The most famous is his colorful juice, like the Shot in a bar, but it is very healthy and delicious.

Verve Coffee

All are organic coffee beans.

The cafe, selected by LA Weekly as "One of the 10 Places to Get a Damn Good Cup of Coffee", is located in Silver Lake with dense blue tiles that make the store's memory very clear, and organic coffee beans are one of the quality guarantees of coffee.

Monterrey | Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop

A century-old dessert shop near the Pacific Ocean

The chocolate dessert shop, located in the heart of Monterey, has a history of more than 100 years. You can not only buy dozens of flavors of chocolate, but also sit down and order a cup of ice cream dessert and coffee and enjoy it on the balcony.

If you think that the balcony is just an ordinary balcony, it is wrong, this balcony faces the Pacific Ocean, the distance is only a few dozen meters, watching the sea water and seabirds walking around, eating dessert and coffee, very beautiful.
