Robusta coffee beans are more resistant to bacteria than traditional Arabica beans, but they are of lower quality, so the price is lower.
These qualities of Robusta are better able to withstand the effects of climate change and benefit small businesses, but some are worried that they will affect Nigeria's reputation for Arabica beans and coffee beans. In December last year, the authorities encouraged the expansion of the cultivation of robusta coffee beans, from the original authorization in the eastern lowlands to several lowlands in the west, but at least 30 kilometers from the Arabica coffee bean growing area, to prevent the variety from invading Arabica coffee bean producing areas.
