Coffee exports from Honduras grow by 57.6%

According to industry statistics, Honduran coffee exports in the first six months of the 2016-2017 harvest year (up to the end of March) increased by 57.6% in total value and 35.48% in volume compared with the same period last year.
Mario Ordonez, technical assistant in the management department of the Honduran Coffee Association (Ihcafe), told the media that Honduran coffee exports totaled US $621 million between October last year and March this year, compared with US $394 million between October 2015 and March last year.
O'Dunes explained that in the first six months of this year, the average price of coffee in the international market was $145 per piculs, compared with an average of $126 per piculs in the same period last year.
According to Ihcafe, Honduran coffee exports totaled 4.2 million metric tons in the first six months of this year, compared with 3.1 million metric tons in the same period last year.
Germany, the US, Belgium and Italy were the main buyers of Honduras during the period, absorbing 73.78 per cent of Hongguo's total coffee exports, according to Ihcafe.
Honduras estimates that by the end of September this year, it will be able to export 9 million metric tons of coffee and earn more than 1.5 billion US dollars in foreign exchange.
