Taiwan media: "Pu'er Coffee" sweeps mainland international brands to go to Yunnan to "grab beans"

Among them, more than 60% of the coffee beans produced in Yunnan each year supply Nestl é, but Starbucks did not fall behind when it launched the first coffee beans from a single producing area in Yunnan at the beginning of this year. Yunnan is also Starbucks' first coffee grower support center in Asia.

Nestl é is the first international beverage company in Yunnan to plant a flag, Taiwan's Zhongshi Electronic News reported on April 25. In 1988, Nestl é promoted the cultivation of small-grain coffee beans in Yunnan, the most famous of which is Simao small-grain coffee (Pu'er coffee). In addition, Nestl é set up the Coffee Agronomy Service Department in 1992, sending six experts to provide free training and technical guidance, and set up coffee quality assurance laboratories and integrated warehousing facilities.

Since 1995, Nestl é has provided training in field management and processing techniques for more than 10,000 coffee farmers, regardless of whether they are Nestle suppliers or not. Today, in Pu'er, the coffee capital, there are nearly 3000 partners and 36000 coffee farmers providing coffee raw materials for Nestl é, covering nearly 200000 mu of planting area.

In 2012, Starbucks established Yunnan as the first "coffee grower support center" in Asia and the sixth in the world. In addition to providing free training in coffee cultivation and processing like Nestl é, it also promotes the training and certification of "Coffee and Fairness for growers" (C.A.F.E. Practices) in order to improve the standards of coffee economy and environmental protection in Yunnan.

It took four years for local coffee farmers and the center to launch the mainland's first coffee bean from a single producing area in Yunnan in early 2017. Tong Yalun, director of Starbucks Coffee grower support Center, said: "what we strive to achieve is to steadily present these easily identifiable Yunnan coffee in a large number of coffee beans produced and processed."
