Where the best coffee is, Salento, Colombia!
I went through a lot of hardships all the way to get the best coffee in the world. First, take a bus to the city of Armenia from the bus transfer station on the west side of Bogot á, the capital of Colombia, and after a nearly 10-hour drive, change to a minibus to Salento, which takes more than 40 minutes to reach the destination. However, time is not a problem, the biggest problem is the condition of the road, since the bus left the city, the road has become a rugged mountain road, although people in the bus, but the body can not be properly fixed in the seat for a moment, the degree of violent shaking is so terrible. In addition, it is the night train that leaves at night. Even if I want to sleep, I can't go to sleep safely. I have to be awake all night. This is my personal experience.
After nearly twelve hours' drive, we finally arrived at Salento. The reason for coming all this way is to see the most delicious coffee in the world. There is a hotel and coffee experience farm called Plantation House, which is run by an old English gentleman who used to work as a corporate consultant and bought it after retirement. It is very popular here. If you don't make a reservation in advance a few days ago, it is very difficult to book a room on that day. It is full almost every day. Because I didn't make a reservation in advance, I had to live in Guesthouse Ca' dell'Angelo (Posada del Angel) near the square.
Northwest of the village square, there is a cafe run by twin brothers with simple tables and chairs. However, there is one remarkable thing, that is, the first generation of manual espresso machine, which is the brand "La La Pavoni" made in the Durin region of northern Italy. The store said that the machine had been bought for nearly a century, and the coffee machine only seen in books was lucky enough to enjoy it nearby! What is even more amazing is that the machine is still in good condition, and my heart is pounding wildly at the thought of being about to taste the coffee extracted by this legendary coffee machine.
Because he didn't see the automatic bean grinder, when he was surprised, the boss scooped a spoonful of ground coffee powder from the coffee tube with a spoon, poured it into the handle of the filter, and did not flatten it with a filler. just put it back into the coffee machine and press down the lever with your hand. After a while, the dark brown espresso was extracted, as if you could feel the aroma and taste of the coffee just with your eyes. Because it is an old model, the extracted "crema" is the top layer of greasy foam when espresso is extracted. It's not very strong, but the bitterness is like an Italian men's suit that runs smoothly from shoulder to waist without a hint of extra tailoring, while the sour taste is like a curvy woman, revealing thin, white ankles under her long black dress. When the coffee is finished, the deep and tasteful aftertaste that rushes up from the stomach to the nasal cavity is exactly what I am looking for.
It was a pity to see the coffee cup at the bottom, so I ordered another cappuccino, added hot milk on top of the espresso, and then poured in the bubbly cappuccino, which has a delicious taste. What is the reason for the difference in taste? I'm really curious. Fresh raw beans obtained directly from coffee producing areas do not need to be explained, which is definitely a major reason, but is milk extracted from dairy cattle raised on pastures? Or do you use ready-made packaged milk? Although I want to ask the boss directly, my Spanish is still rusty, and the cafe owner's English is not fluent, so I can only observe with my eyes and can't find out why.
I spent five days in Salento and went to the cafe run by the twin brothers at least three times a day. The twins really looked alike, and without careful observation, it was almost impossible to tell who was the elder brother and who was the younger brother. After about the third day, their brothers recognized me, and even if I didn't order, they knew that I was in the habit of drinking coffee and would automatically bring cappuccino in the morning, espresso at noon and cappuccino in the evening. It seems that they have regarded me as a regular customer.
I didn't know until the day before I left that this cafe had been introduced by a travel program of a Korean television station. I walked into the store that morning as I did a few days ago, and they called me over and showed me a film on videotape, which was supposed to be the film sent to them by the Korean TV station after shooting. It seems that whenever Korean guests come to this store, they will proudly show the film to them. The day before I left, the same film was still shown on TV in the store. Because I don't have a video recorder, I can't record it with video, but the coffee I drank over the past five days has been deeply engraved in my mind through my eyes, nose and tongue. Even now, whenever I enjoy my coffee leisurely, I often think of the place where the best coffee in the world lies, Salento's Twin Brothers Cafe.
