Coffee review

Boutique coffee, the most important thing is fresh!

Last Updated: 2024/11/03, The shelf life of roasted coffee beans is very short, usually only one month at most, and the shelf life of deep-baked beans used in Espresso cooking is even shorter.

The flavor of coffee will peak a few days after it is roasted, which will be maintained for a period of time, and then gradually lose its flavor as time goes by. Preservation in good conditions can prolong the life of coffee beans and reduce the loss of flavor; otherwise, it will accelerate the death of coffee beans and throw them into the dustbin before the normal time limit!

Raw beans: two years or more

Baked beans: usually 1 month, Espresso 14-20 days

Grind beans: 5-10 minutes

Freshly baked coffee beans with a strong flavor of beans. But from this moment on, the urgent oxidation reaction began to intensify.

How to make sure that you always have high-quality coffee beans to drink? The following key points can be referred to:

1. Buy freshly roasted coffee beans:

Find a coffee dealer you trust (whether it has a storefront or an online store) and make sure they have the ability to bake their own coffee beans before buying their beans, preferably freshly baked that day.

Please remember not to blindly believe in brand-name imported coffee beans, freshness is irreplaceable. Of course, if you want to make sure the coffee beans are absolutely fresh, you can also bake your own coffee beans!

2. Reduce the contact between air and coffee beans:

The main reason why coffee beans are not fresh is the oxidation caused by contact with air, so it is necessary to reduce the contact between coffee and air as much as possible. In addition to being stored in sealed cans, many coffee roasters have opaque aluminum foil sealing bags that provide one-way exhaust. This bag has a small specially designed valve that allows carbon dioxide produced during the heating of coffee beans to be released, but does not allow oxygen to enter. In addition, it is made of aluminum foil, so it is opaque and can prevent moisture from entering. In addition, it is also important to seal the mouth of the bag after each cooking.

3. Finish the coffee beans as soon as possible:

No matter how perfectly preserved, there is no way to keep the coffee beans in the peak state, over time will only make the coffee beans more and more stale, so don't buy too many coffee beans at one time. You can calculate your average consumption a little bit. If you use 10g beans for a cup of coffee, even if you drink three cups a day, you only need about 200g beans a week. So it is enough to buy 100g-200g at one time, and you are not afraid to drink expired beans.

4. Grind the coffee before brewing:

Ground coffee beans have a very large surface area, so the rate of oxidation is relatively increased countless times. After about 5-10 minutes, the coffee powder will all deteriorate because of oxidation, let alone want to make good coffee. So if you want to drink fresh and good coffee, you must grind it yourself, and you must grind it at the moment before brewing.

Finally, I would like to remind you again, in any case, always remember "fresh" first!
