People who like black coffee are more likely to be mentally ill or sadistic, a new study from the University of Innsbruck in Austria has found. The study, published in the journal appetite, surveyed the taste preferences of more than 1000 adults and measured their four negative personality traits: narcissism, psychosis, sadism and aggressiveness.

The study found that the preference for black coffee and other bitter tastes was associated with sadism and mental illness. Those who like milky coffee, sweet coffee and other sweet flavors may generally have some more "likable" personality traits: compassion, cooperation and kindness.

The researchers point out that the link between bitterness preference and psychotic tendencies can become a long-term problem and get worse over time. They say it is not clear what creates a link between bitterness preferences and negative personality traits.

Taste preferences are largely influenced by culture and personal experience, not entirely by personality traits, and will change over time. Drinking black coffee can get all the benefits of coffee without eating excess fat and calories. Therefore, not all mental patients like to drink black coffee, but people who like black coffee are more likely to show mental illness. Compiler / Traveler
