Coffee Tour in China (1) Hainan
The main producing areas of Chinese coffee are Hainan, Yunnan and Taiwan. according to historical records, coffee was first planted in Taiwan in 1884, which opened the prelude to the development of coffee in China. The earliest coffee cultivation in mainland China began in Yunnan. At the beginning of the 20th century, a French missionary brought the first coffee seedlings to Binchuan County in Yunnan Province. Since then, the earliest cafe in China has appeared in Kunming, Yunnan Province. In the past hundred years, coffee cultivation in Yunnan has never been interrupted. At present, Yunnan is the largest coffee producer in China.
The history of coffee cultivation in Hainan can be traced back to the beginning of the last century. It is said that the earliest coffee was brought back from Nanyang by overseas Chinese in Wenchang. Most of the soil in Hainan Province is latosol formed by weathering of granite and basalt, and the content of organic matter in the surface layer is 1.8-3.5%, which is very suitable for coffee growth. As early as 1898, overseas Chinese introduced coffee seedlings and planted them in Shilenpo Village, Nanyang Town, Wenchang City. In 1908, overseas Chinese introduced coffee and planted it near Nada Town in Jindan County. In 1935, overseas Chinese set up a Fumin Reclamation Company in Fushan Town, Chengmai County, planted coffee in a large area and began to produce commercial coffee.

Robusta was first introduced into Hainan coffee, which was planted in Fushan Town of Chengmai County and Xinglong overseas Chinese Farm of Wanning County. This kind of coffee has been domesticated under the local conditions of Hainan, and its quality has undergone subtle changes, such as stir-frying and brewing, and its smell is mellow and delicious. The coffee technician of New York General Food Co., Ltd. came to Hainan to inspect the coffee production, brought his own coffee tasting utensils, and made his own kind of coffee in Hainan. After trying it, he thought that the taste was mellow, the irritation was strong, and formed his own unique flavor. Xinglong Coffee and Fushan Coffee are the representatives of winning praise at home and abroad.
In 1960, Premier Zhou (second from left) visited Xinglong Coffee Garden.
In 2002, Lin Wen-ding, the boss from Taiwan, came to Fushan to grow more than 400 mu of coffee, created his own brands "Ancient Coffee" (pronounced "Good Sir") and "strong Coffee" (synonymous with Chinese China), and introduced Arabica varieties with high yield and disease resistance from Brazil, which has achieved good results. Hainan geological volcanic laterite is the same as the famous coffee product Kona coffee in Hawaii. It is hoped that famous products like Kona can be grown in the future.
