The Indonesian Association of Lampung Coffee suppliers (ASKL) says local Robusta coffee production has fallen sharply by 70 per cent this year.
"in addition, the quality of coffee beans is also very low," Mulyadi, president of the Lampong Coffee suppliers Association, told reporters in Lampung, Wanda.
He added that because the output and quality of Robbda coffee are very low, there are so few beans exported to foreign countries that they are unable to meet foreign demand.
He explained that today, Robesda coffee beans produced in Lampung are sold only to local coffee companies, such as Kapal Api, Torabika and Top Coffe.
He believes that the above three companies buy 25,000 rupiah to 26,500 rupiah per kilogram of coffee products from farmers, which is very helpful to farmers who are facing harsh times because the coffee products harvested are very low.
He added that although the price of coffee purchased from farmers helps farmers, they feel that it is not yet beneficial because the harvest of coffee is very low, producing only 1 to 1.5 piculs of coffee beans from one hectare of coffee farmland.
In fact, the coffee yield in Lampong area is more than 1 ton per hectare. He added that coffee production in Lampung fell sharply not only because of the weather, but also because of the high rainfall last year, which led to the destruction of the ovules of coffee beans.
To help coffee farmers, he said, we will begin to train farmers in 2018 on how to keep the land fertile and work with stakeholders to ensure that fertilizers, especially those subsidized by the government, are correctly targeted for distribution to farmers.
Lampung Coffee Plantation Center is located in West Lampong County, Waykanan area, North Lampung area, and Tanggamus area, with an annual output of more than 100000 tons.
