According to Yonhap news agency reported on Sept. 30, recently, news emerged in South Korea that the price of coffee beans at Starbucks in South Korea is about twice that of the United Kingdom and other places, which has attracted the attention of the South Korean media and citizens.

According to a photo provided by a reader on the 30th, Starbucks coffee beans made in Antigua, Guatemala, sell for 4.95 pounds in the UK, while they sell for 16000 won in South Korea, more than double the price in the UK. And the prices of coffee beans from other places sold at Starbucks in South Korea are more or less the same. With 250g as the benchmark, coffee beans are 16000 won in Kenya, 18000 won in Ethiopia and 16000 won in Colombia.

Starbucks' head of South Korea did not give a clear answer to the difference in the price of the same kind of coffee beans in different countries. Starbucks stores are located in more than 70 countries around the world, and the price of coffee beans reflects prices, labor costs, rents and various operating expenses in each country, the official said. The price of Starbucks coffee beans in South Korea is similar to that of other domestic franchise brands and is competitive in the market. The official also stressed that the price of coffee beans in South Korea has not changed much in the past decade.

According to the person in charge's explanation, under the premise that the raw materials and quality of coffee remain constant, the price of coffee actually reflects the local price level. Large American coffee cups sell for 4100 won in South Korea and an average of 3300 won in the UK, reflecting differences in price levels.

Reported that it can be inferred that the high price of coffee in South Korea is the direct reason for the high price of Starbucks coffee beans in South Korea.
