Rwanda Muhura Washing Plant Muhura Sun-red Bourbon Coffee
Muhura Estate, located at an altitude of 1700 meters in Gatsibo, in the eastern province of Rwanda, was established by a private investment company in 2010.
However, due to lack of funds, in 2011 they approached Rwanda Trading Company (RTC) to provide funds, allowing them to operate for two quarters, and in 2013 they bought the entire washing plant. Since then, Muhula has been able to process 900 tons of cherries per year, and the RTC investment has allowed them to upgrade their processing facilities significantly, improving coffee quality.
Generally speaking, sun-cured coffee is rare in Rwanda, and the government does invest a lot in coffee production and quality improvement, but innovation or experimentation is not particularly encouraged. Muhula washing plant this year to choose the sun batch, really exciting.
This coffee has a strong fruity flavor and is very, very sweet, with blueberry juice, dried figs, and European black cherries giving it a taste, acidity, and complexity never before seen in Rwandan coffee.
