Espresso Coffee extraction detailed steps Italian concentration common sense
Yesterday, I talked with my friends about the names and differences of various coffee drinks, which seems to be a topic that everyone often comes into contact with but is not sure about.
If you travel to the United States or Canada to order coffee at the so-called craftsmen's Cafe (Artisan Coffee), the general menu will be as follows:
Filter Coffee (Drip)
This is the coffee made by the coffee machine. Put the ground coffee powder in the filter paper and brew it with hot water. Because it drips out slowly from the filter paper, taking care of its name.
You can have as many cups of this coffee as you want. Of course, most people like to add sugar, honey, milk, cream or cream.
Espresso (Espresso)
The full name of Espresso in Chinese is espresso. The following coffee drinks are all based on Espresso.
Espresso uses an Espresso machine to press hot water into coffee powder to make a very small cup of coffee!
Espresso can be divided into single (English: Single espresso;: Espresso solo, usually omitted as espresso) and double (English: Double espresso;: Espresso Doppio), and there are also three rare copies. In fact, in addition to the capacity, the production methods are also slightly different.
Espresso also has a variety of so-called lengths that have different flavors.
Generally speaking, a single Espresso is 30cc and a double 60cc is a very small cup of strong coffee. Therefore, it is easier to import modified milk foam in the United States.
In Italy, coffee is espresso! In the United States, espresso is usually double, because the single portion is too small and does not look good! And Americans are used to adding milk to the coffee with a stronger flavor.
American coffee (Americano)
The first reaction of most people to get an Espresso is, "Why is it so small?"
Then drink it: "Why is it so strong!"
The story of Americano is that Americans wanted to drink coffee in Europe during the world war, but they got Espresso, strong and small, so they took a big cup and filled it with hot water to make it taste like the coffee they are used to.
Taiwan often confuses American coffee with filter coffee, but in fact, the two practices are different! The taste will be a little different. Generally speaking, Americano will be sweeter and lower in caffeine.
Usually Americano adds water to espresso; in Australia, it is popular to boil espresso into hot water called Long Black, so that the bubbles on espresso will remain on top of the coffee, and it is said to taste different!
The capacity of Americano is as much as it adds water.
Caff è Macchiato
This is a cup of Espresso with a small amount of milk or milk foam, a total of about 40-45cc and a double of 80-90cc.
Macchiato originally means "stained" or "marked" in Italian. It is said that the Italian barista used to make a mark in order to let the coffee waiter know which cup had been added milk.
Cappuccino (Cappuccino)
The traditional cappuccino has only one size: 180cc. Coffee, milk and milk foam each take up the capacity of 1x3.
However, according to the owner of Vivace, a famous American coffee shop, Cappuccino is simply espresso and milk added to 180cc.
Nowadays, popular coffee shops come in different sizes, but what you drink in a craftsman's coffee shop is usually 180cc.
Latte (Caff è Latte)
Italian Latte means "milk", so if you go to Italy to order a glass of latte, the waiter will bring a glass of cold milk!
So as the name suggests, caf è Latte is coffee with milk or milk foam. How much milk you add, how many lattes you can drink!
