Hawaii Kona coffee beans produced in the western coast of Hawaii Island, in the local fertile volcanic soil bred, known for fine fine quality and elegant delicate flavor, can be said to be the world coffee map in another top representative, whether in rarity or expensive degree almost comparable to Blue Mountain.

This coffee bean is roasted in a medium light degree to perfectly express the characteristics of Kona; it emits extremely complex sweet aromas such as cashew nuts, milk peanuts, soybeans, kumquat and peach. The taste is mild, soft, clear, bright and elegant, and it makes people drunk.

At first, it was just because my brother said,"when you go to Hawaii, remember to send me a bag of kona coffee as soon as possible!" "therefore, we should pay close attention to the origin and information of kona coffee.

But what surprised me when I got here was that it was so convenient to buy kona coffee. Walmart shelves were full of all kinds of KONA coffee. The price was not too expensive (8oz. about 6 to 10 US dollars). I also couldn't figure out where the difference was. The whole thing made me dizzy.

I wanted to buy two packs of higher-quality coffee beans and send them home, but my father said that I could buy them in Taiwan for this price. It seems that there is no need to send an air parcel back. It even inspired me to go to KONA to find "legendary coffee beans."

So we found a travel book and booked a coffee garden tour online (free). We came to the famous coffee company UCC's only farm in KONA.

This farm is in the mountains of KONA, and we drive all the way with "Is this really it? Do you have any coffee here? "The question, because it is really a bit desolate, even floating up a fine rain!

We finally found this coffee farm after walking around the mountain. The owner who greeted us spoke a lot of Japanese seriously.(Laughter) We had to laugh and say," We are Taiwanese!" "

We were greeted at the entrance by a wine tasting and vendor.

The boss specially recommended one of the coffee beans,"Peaberry." I checked that Taiwan should be called "Gongdou." KONA coffee is the most famous variety of male beans, pure male beans are not easy to buy in supermarkets, because the yield only accounts for 5% of all coffee beans, usually bought in stores near the origin. This is not my ideal home will have a face of coffee beans!!!

After we tried it, although my tongue is not very good at distinguishing good coffee from bad coffee, I am sure that Peaberry really tastes good, because black coffee without sugar and cream is very smooth, not bitter and sour, and I, who usually adds sugar and milk, can accept it directly. The taste is indeed different from other KONA coffees, which is very suitable for people who like to taste fresh.

The lovely narrator (married) took us up the hill behind the vendors and began introducing us to coffee trees. I think I'll just write down what I hear from my impressions ^_^

Coffee beans grow section by section, where they grow this year, they will not grow again next year, so the branches will grow longer and longer, one section at a time, and of course when they grow to a very long time, they will mop the ground, so about every five or six years, the whole tree will be cut down but the roots will be kept for it to grow again.

Coffee trees actually don't need much care. KONA coffee is famous because only KONA's "certain mountainous area" is especially suitable for growing coffee. Partly because of the volcanic nature of Hawaii's soil, and partly because KONA weather is wonderful, with bright sun during the day but showers starting after noon, these coffee trees need little watering to grow well! In addition, kona coffee and blue mountain coffee are actually the same Arabica (Arabica) tree species, but because of the climate, altitude, soil differences so that he appeared very different flavor

You can see that the whole bunch of coffee beans are red and green, but only the very dark red ones can be harvested. So the hard part about growing coffee beans is that they have to be harvested manually one by one and then sunned and roasted. The coffee growing season is July/August to January (I'm not sure if I remember correctly), and a whole coffee tree produces only a pound of beans a year!!! (Approximately 50 cups of coffee)

In terms of UCC farm production, a total of more than 10,000 coffee trees are planted, but because they have to be cut down in turn to allow them to grow again, the actual number of coffee beans that can be produced each year is about seven or eight thousand trees, so the annual coffee bean production is about seven or eight thousand pounds!

I remember that a few days before we went to KONA, the king asked me whether a coffee bean is a whole fruit roasted equal to a coffee bean, or whether there are many seeds in the fruit? This question was answered on this day

Yes, generally speaking, the seeds are divided into two coffee beans, which is the most common coffee bean. If it was Peaberry, it would be a whole bean, not split in half. Peaberry is actually a deformed bean caused by special conditions (insect pests or planting defects). The appearance will be slightly smaller than ordinary beans, but it is impossible to determine whether it is male or female beans without opening it!

We put coffee beans directly in our mouths, and surprisingly, they taste sweet, and if they had more pulp, they might be a good fruit (laughs)! Unfortunately, the flesh only had a thin layer of skin, and it was not enough to fill his teeth!

I went online and caught the difference between male beans and female beans. On the left is Peaberry (male beans) and on the right is ordinary female beans. In fact, the Chinese translation is misleading. Beans are all harvested from the same tree, regardless of biological sex.

In addition, the difference in color depends on the degree of roasting, the darker of course, the longer the roasting, and the caffeine in the coffee beans will gradually lose with the roasting time, the more bitter it will be. The farm uses medium city roast, which is said to be the most drinkable grade.

Of course, there are some ancillary products of this farm, he gave us each a box of chocolate beans to try, this chocolate contains complete coffee beans!!! Super delicious (thumb)

As a result, we each lost a few packets of coffee beans. I bought two packets of Peaberry Kona Coffee and coffee chocolate beans to send back to my family. Because the freight is expensive, if there are other Taiwanese friends still want, please wait until next summer XD I will try to stuff a lot into my suitcase to bring back to Taiwan! After all, the cost of shipping on this island is one-sixth of the cost of shipping internationally.

In terms of coffee bean prices, regular KONA coffee costs 8oz USD $15.75 on this farm and Peaberry 8oz USD $19.00, both twice as much as the cheap coffee I saw at Walmart. Chun bought a pack of Peaberry to cook and drink, super luxury!!! I'd like to order a few packs from the farm online and drink one myself."

This kona line is very happy, the play has played, the buy has bought, the learn has learned! ya!

Almost everything we learned that day at UCC Farm!

Finally, I put a photo of our condo (apartment hotel) in KONA, because it was too luxurious and comfortable for us girls to go back to Hilo.

How is organic coffee made? Is Hawaiian coffee organic?
