A recent Harvard study found that if you consume more than three cups of caffeine a day, the risk of migraine will greatly increase. According to the survey, the current global rate of migraine is 10%, and the medical community believes that migraine may be affected by sleep, hormones and many other factors. But caffeine can also treat acute migraines if consumed in moderation, because caffeine relaxes clogged blood vessels in the brain and helps relieve pain.

According to Healthline, 10% of people worldwide suffer from migraines, especially in women (16%). According to the Taiwan headache Society, migraines are considered to be a disorder in the brain's response to the environment and stress, and there are many inducing factors. Sleep, hormone, light stimulation and climate change can all cause migraines.

To study the effects of caffeine intake and migraines, the Department of Epidemiology of Harvard University in the United States recruited 98 subjects who had occasional migraines, Medical News Today reported. The subjects were asked to keep a diary for six consecutive weeks, recording in detail the amount of exercise, sources of stress, sleep quality, caffeine and alcohol intake and headaches, including coffee, tea, sodas and energy drinks.

The results show that caffeine causes bipolar reactions and increases the risk of migraines by consuming more than three caffeine drinks, but drinking one or two cups a day is not a big deal. Caffeine can also relieve headaches caused by clogged blood vessels in the brain, because caffeine can dilate blood vessels and reduce pain, and intravenous caffeine is medically used to treat acute migraines.

In response, scholars said, "this study only focuses on patients with long-term migraines and does not apply to people who do not often have migraines." In addition, the effects of migraine and sleep, mood swings and climate change on migraine need to be studied more carefully in the future.
