Due to funding problems, the Coffee Excellence Alliance (ACE) announced the suspension of the Excellence Cup (CoE) program in Indonesia.

Initially, after the success of the Aceh region pilot program in Indonesia in March, ACE originally planned to continue the Bandung pilot program in Bandung next year in 2020 and to launch a complete CoE program later this year, which aims to discover the best coffee in Indonesia while helping local farmers find high-quality buyers.

However, the cooperation between CoE and the Indonesian Special Coffee Association (SCAI) has encountered obstacles in terms of funding and management programmes.

ACE said in a public statement: "ACE has decided to suspend the CoE program in Indonesia until it is determined that SCAI can provide appropriate funding and management for the CoE program during its entry into Indonesia." We are very sorry for the delay in the CoE program, but before we make any competition under the CoE brand and rules. It is vital that all these requirements have been put in place, "

"We hope to be able to return to the negotiating table with a timetable and plan next year." ACE told Indonesia's CoE plan, "Please wait patiently for SCAI and ACE to find the best solution to move the plan forward."

In the CoE pilot program in Aceh, a jury of coffee professionals from Australia, China, Sumatra, Colombia, the Netherlands, the United States, Singapore and South Korea received more than 40 entries from local farmers and pre-selected.

In 2019, ACE has held six CoE events in Burundi, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. The upcoming CoE auction will be held in Burundi on September 19, November 26 in Brazil and December 5 in Peru.

In 2019, ACE organized 10 coffee-producing countries' CoE competitions, of which this year's CoE competition has been postponed due to political unrest in Nicaragua. In addition, ACE launched its first "private collection" auction this year, offering Yemeni coffee by a Yemeni trading company, and plans to bring the full CoE program to Ethiopia, the birthplace of the coffee, in 2020.
