Although there are many kinds of coffee available on the market, different producing areas and plantations will produce coffee with different flavors, but generally speaking, there are only two main choices: Robusta and Arabica.

Robusta has higher yield, easier care, stronger disease resistance and lower production cost than Arabica. For this reason, Robusta is usually used for cheap coffee, such as instant coffee.

Robusta accounts for 40% of global coffee production, and the remaining 60% is Arabica. Most of Robusta is produced in Vietnam and is also widely distributed in Brazil, Indonesia, India and Uganda, while production in other areas is very small. Arabica is more widely distributed, with Brazil being the largest country of origin of Arabica coffee.

Robusta flavor

Robusta has much higher caffeine than Arabica, at 2.7% and 1.5%, respectively, but contains less sugar. Note that caffeine content has nothing to do with taste, for example, deep-baked Arabica has lower caffeine than lightly roasted robusta. Robusta usually smells earthy (some people think it's charred rubber), with a more bitter taste and less acidity.

The vast majority of expensive coffee and individual coffee (from unified plantations) are Arabica.

But this is not to say that Robusta is useless. Robusta is often used to mix coffee to increase the taste and caffeine content.

In particular, Italian concentrated blending usually uses a mix of Arabica and Robusta (the latter content is 10-15%), which in turn makes the coffee thicker, stronger and more greasy.

The quality of each kind of coffee is different, and the way coffee is processed will also affect the quality of coffee. Robusta usually uses sun processing, which makes Robusta's flavor stronger and more suitable for making low-quality instant coffee (taste is not important).

Today, the quality of high-quality washing Robusta has also been recognized by people, sometimes there will be a single Robusta or blended coffee.
