What is "cup test"?

Have you ever been to a wine tasting? The cup test is similar, you simply taste the coffee to test it.

It's just not that simple.

Coffee, like wine, has subtle tastes and hints that are often not immediately recognized (even well-trained taste buds).

Simply put, "cup test" is an accurate way to evaluate the characteristics of a particular coffee bean. The purpose of this process is to collect data to help mark coffee as professional or otherwise, as well as education-one cup at a time to test coffee (sometimes up to 15 cups to test one cup of coffee!)

Why would you do that?

The cup test is used to identify different levels of taste in coffee, from the most basic to the best hidden. This method is particularly helpful in distinguishing which coffee is the most suitable for mixed use and which is considered to be specialty coffee.

This method is very general, and there is no distinction between right and wrong. It can be used to identify coffee in countless different areas of coffee production-such as farms, individual crops, regions and countries-because they vary from one aspect to another. Coffee made in Costa Rica tastes different from that made in Ethiopia or Brazil, right?
