About Guatemala

Guatemalan coffee is regarded as one of the most delicious and delicate coffee cups in the world. There are coffee growing areas all over the country, and the quality and potential of coffee vary. Today, most coffee in Guatemala is grown at the right altitude, soil and climate, and most of it is grown in high-quality production and processing systems, so some coffees are very good and some are very special.

Coffee cultivation in Guatemala was introduced by German immigrants in the 19th century, and since then coffee has become a major industry, with nearly 1/4 of the population involved in coffee production. Guatemala's tall coffee beans (above 4500 feet above sea level) are one of the best in the world, especially those grown on the slopes of the southern volcano. This country produces 3.5 million plastic bags every year. The coveted blends are Atitlan and Huehuetenango.

Guatemalan coffee is unique in its high altitude, diverse microclimate, continuous rainfall patterns, and excellent cultivation and processing, resulting in different types of Guatemalan Arabica coffee.

Eight kinds of special coffee are unique. These eight areas are: Acatenango Valley, Antigua Coffee, Traditional Atitlan, Rainforest Coban, Fraijanes Plateau, Highland Huehue, New Oriente and volcano San Marcos.
