Honduras

Honduras took fifth place from Ethiopia in the 2016-2017 crop year, while Honduras retained its place in the 2017-2018 crop year, producing 450000 tons of coffee. It is also the third largest producer in Latin America. Honduras is a major producer of specialty coffee, with exports surging 145 per cent in the crop year 2016-2017 compared with the previous year. Coffee producers in Honduras do well in this area, in part because the country's acreage exceeds the minimum altitude requirement of 3000 feet, which is the hallmark of professional coffee.

However, it may be difficult for producers in this country to move forward. Four new types of coffee leaf rust have been found in the country, according to a 2018 report from the United States Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agriculture Service. The report also warns that because many Honduran producers are too small to obtain credit lines, they may not be able to invest in preventive measures. In 2012, there was an outbreak of rust, and many people are still heavily in debt.
