Front Street-A brief introduction to the Rose Summer of Hope Manor in Colombia
Colombia is the largest producer of Arabica coffee and the largest exporter of washed coffee, ranking third in the world in total coffee production, with an annual export volume of nearly 12 million sacks (60 kg each). Colombia is the first country to apply for Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) certification to the EU as a non-EU member.
In 2011, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced that the four provinces of central Colombia: Caldas Caldas, Jindio Quind í o, Riesalda Risaralda and Valle del Cauca in the Cauca Valley, a total of 47 municipalities, a vast area, listed as human heritage conservation.
It is in this human heritage area that gave birth to the winner of the second extraordinary Cup in 2018 and 2019, as well as the Rosa Professional Plantation, which ranked second in the evaluation of SCAA Global Coffee Manor. Today's Qianjie Origin series will take you to visit this world-famous human heritage in Colombia, to step into the history of coffee cultivation in the Cauca Valley, and to visit the Hope Manor that best recognizes the World Heritage site "colonial agricultural reclamation spirit". The Hope Manor in Cauca Valley is a boutique coffee garden that best represents the spirit of small farmers conquering nature in the history of coffee colonization and reclamation in Colombia. The owners of the estate, the Don Rigo brothers, worked together to create the 2008 Panamanian BOP champion estate "La Carleida" farm.
The Don Rigo brothers bought the third farm, Cerro Azul Blue Hills, in 2007 in the mountains outside the town of Trujillo in the Caucau Valley. The blue hills are located at the summit of the western Andes (Cordillera Occidental) at an altitude of 1700 to 1950 meters. When the cool and wet fog meets the warm Pacific breeze, the farm area forms a special microclimate with intermittent showers, which is very similar to the Panamanian emerald estate Boquete, making it the cradle of Colombian rose beans.
In 2007, the Blue Hills Manor welcomed 35000 precious Panamanian rose summer saplings. Although two months later, many of these seedlings could not accept the death or injury of soil and water, Don Rigo did not give up. He planted a whole windbreak forest at the top of the mountain to isolate the overblown sea breeze. Because of Don Rigo's persistence, the Panamanian rosy summer, which survived on the Blue Hill Farm in 2007, won the second place in the 2012 Fine Coffee Association World Coffee Competition in the first coffee harvest season five years later (five years after coffee seedlings were planted). Then he was selected as the champion of the American coffee hand competition Brewers Cup in 2012 and the following year in 2013. the barista designated the beans for the competition, and he also became the runner-up in the 2014 World barista Competition WBC. Blue hills rose summer beans have become famous ever since.
Knowledge expansion: Las Margaritas is a breeding and experimental center for rare varieties of Arabica coffee set up in the Cauca Valley in the hope that the manor will inherit the family spirit of adventure and experiment.
