Can coffee powder be regrinded? Will the secondary grinding have an adverse effect on the bean grinder?
We all know that coffee is best to be freshly ground and brewed, but if you get the coffee powder from others, if it is a bag of medium-sized powder, you may want to grind it into a fine grind, and then use the second-ground powder to make espresso.
No matter how attractive espresso is to you, brew coffee with pre-ground powdered coffee, even though re-grinding will not make a good coffee, and it is not recommended to grind such powder for several reasons:
Re-grinding may block the bean grinder
This is the most important point. If the coffee powder is then poured into the bean grinder and ground into a finer powder, it will cause the powder to fall from the knife head of the bean grinder as smoothly as beans, and not only can not get the desired fine grinding powder for espresso coffee. It will also lead to more powder remaining in the knife plate of the bean grinder and the grinding quality after contamination.
In order to remove the residue of these powders and restore the grinding quality, you must also disassemble the bean grinder and thoroughly clean the cutter head. Many bean grinder manufacturers do not advise guests to disassemble the machine themselves and may not even provide warranty service, which is not interesting when you do not go back to your original state and really want to drink coffee.
In addition, these second-ground powders are not suitable for brewing espresso, but can only be used for composting, deodorization and dyeing agents, because the powder in this state will be too fine for water to be extracted through coffee powder.
The re-ground coffee powder itself has lost its flavor and stale.
Even if you have a way to adjust the bean grinder and grind it to the right size without polluting the cutterhead, the re-ground powder will not be able to cook a full flavor concentration, the key lies in the aroma. Once the coffee is ground, the aroma will be released in large quantities, and the flavor of the coffee can be brought into full play through the correct brewing. And when you get the coffee powder, even if you grind it again, it is already the powder after a lot of aroma loss when brewing.
This is why we recommend grinding coffee beans before brewing, preferably within five minutes, when grinding coffee powder in advance, even if it is placed in a sealed can or in a vacuum, the brewed coffee is still a cup of coffee that loses a lot of aroma and will not taste very good.
Make up for the shortcomings of ready-made powder by brewing and cooking
If you still get the coffee powder that has been ground, the best way is to make up for the shortcomings of the powder by means of cooking which is suitable for rough grinding. Maybe you've been dusting the French kettle for a while, and this is a good opportunity to put it back into use and test it in different hand-flushing ways, but the focus is on how rough the powder is.
If you want to boil the concentrate with medium-sized ground powder anyway, you can use the pressure relief valve behind the brewing handle filter cup to get something similar to espresso. In some coffee machines, this valve can be used to make up for the lack of pressure caused by coarse powder, although it will not be a good espresso, but at least the extracted water will come down.
Cleaning and maintenance of bean grinder
No matter how good the quality of the bean grinder is, the problem of residual powder will occur during grinding, and the residual powder will affect the quality of your next coffee powder grinding. If you are grinding A beans now, the next time you grind B beans, you will mix the coffee powder of A, so you can prepare a small amount of B beans before grinding B beans to "clean" the action of the bean grinder. In addition, you can also buy brushes, blow balls to do basic cleaning and maintenance, do not recommend disassembly cleaning, not only can not be assembled back to the problem, may also lose the original factory warranty qualification.
