According to a report released by the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) in December 2020, Ugandan coffee exports totaled 549, 52525 bags (60 kg each) in 2020, valued at US $515.94 million. In 2019, Uganda's coffee exports totaled 451, 563 bags, worth $436.54 million. From the reported data, we can see that the export volume of Ugandan coffee in 2020 increased by 22% over 2019, and the total value increased by 18%.

Uganda exported 42, 922 bags of coffee in December 2020, valued at US $37.78 million. Of these, Robusta accounted for 37,5209 bags (valued at US $30.87 million), and Arabica accounted for 47,713 bags (valued at US $6.92 million). Compared with the same period last year, the export volume increased by 28.06 per cent and the total value increased by 9.42 per cent.

Uganda's Robusta exports accounted for 88.72% of the month's total exports in December 2020, higher than 86.50% of the month's total exports in November 2020. In terms of price, the average price in December was US $1.37 per kilogram, the same as in November. The average price of Arabica coffee beans was $2.42 per kilogram in December, 20 cents higher than the price in November 2020.

According to the Uganda Coffee Development Authority, Uganda's coffee exports in 2020 were at an all-time high. The latest data provided by the authorities show that crops have recovered steadily, with exports increasing from 3.557 million bags in fiscal year 2016 to 5.493 million bags in fiscal year 2020, an increase of about 64.7 per cent. This is the highest amount of coffee exported by Uganda in the past 30 years.

According to Ugandan regulators, the increase in exports in 2020 is due to the increase in production due to the beginning of newly planted coffee trees. Coupled with the fact that COVID-19 has little impact on Uganda, many European countries do not have much control over Ugandan shipping in terms of exports, while other coffee-producing countries are affected by COVID-19, and coffee bean exports are also affected to varying degrees. This is also the reason why Uganda's demand for coffee increased and exports continued to rise in 2020.
