Blue Mountain Coffee refers to coffee brewed from beans from the Blue Mountains of Jamaica. According to the grade, it is divided into Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee and Jamaican Alpine Coffee. The Blue Mountain Mountains that grow Blue Mountain Coffee are located on the island of Jamaica, with an elevation of more than 2100 meters. The mountains are covered with fertile volcanic soil, and because the mountains are surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, the air is clean and moist, providing plenty of water and nutrients for coffee trees. The cultivation of Blue Mountain Coffee can be traced back to the early 18th century, but its real fame overseas began in 1953. With little land in Jamaica, good coffee can only be grown at high elevations. And the whole island only has the elevation of the Blue Mountains, so the actual output of high-quality coffee beans is not much. So the Jamaica Coffee Industry Association (CIB), which was founded only a few years ago (1948), began to make a detailed division of coffee production throughout the Blue Mountains in order to make more money, dividing the limited coffee beans into different grades and selling them at different prices. At that time, CIB mainly worked out the grading, upgrading of planting technology, grading of blue mountain coffee beans, quality control and certification of exported blue mountain coffee beans.

The whole blue mountain range is 2256m above sea level, and the local government stipulates that the area above 1700m is a natural ecological reserve and cannot be engaged in the cultivation of economic crops. We all know that delicious coffee beans can not grow without the temperature difference between day and night brought about by high altitude, thus forming more coffee flavor, so CIB stipulates that only coffee trees grown in 910m-1700m can be called "Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee". 460m-910m above sea level can only be sold in the name of "Jamaican Alpine Coffee"; those below 460m can only be sold in the name of "Jamaican preferred Coffee".
