Chinese Coffee beans | Coffee Bean producing areas in China _ introduction to the Historical Origin of Coffee beans in China
Coffee beans were first planted in China in 1892, when French missionaries brought some coffee varieties to Yunnan, China, which opened the history of Chinese coffee. Yunnan coffee bean production was relatively low until 2009. Due to the low price of tea and the rising price of coffee in the international market, Yunnan's coffee bean production has been boosted by it, and China has begun to cultivate its own boutique coffee beans to find the flavor of Chinese coffee.
There are many coffee producing areas in China: Yunnan, Fujian and Hainan.
When it comes to fine coffee in China, you will first think of Yunnan. The planting environment of Yunnan is also the most suitable for growing coffee in China. The west and south of Yunnan Province are located between 15 °N and the Tropic of Capricorn. At the same time, most areas also have high elevations needed for coffee production, with mainly mountainous and sloping terrain, fertile soil, sufficient sunshine, rich rainfall and large temperature difference between day and night. In addition, Baoshan is also rich in the world's most expensive Kopi Luwak. Coffee industry is also the most sound and mature industry of market economy in the leading industry of Baoshan municipal government since the founding of New China. In order to better develop this industry, Baoshan has made a variety of attempts in this regard, including the launch of the Yunnan Baoshan Coffee World Project. Baoshan, Yunnan is located in the low-latitude plateau, known as "one mountain is divided into four seasons, ten miles of different days," said, such a climate can be said to be very suitable for growing coffee beans. To tell you a figure, the output of coffee in Yunnan Province has reached 136000 tons, accounting for more than 95% of the national coffee output, and the export volume ranks the highest in the country, at 60700 tons. Baoshan area has a long history of growing coffee, which is recognized as the "best small-grain coffee producing area" and one of the coffee producing areas with good coffee quality in the country and even in the world.
The main variety in Yunnan is Katim coffee beans, which are a hybrid of Timor and Kaddura and contain 25% Robusta pedigree, resulting in a lack of aroma and bitterness. Also planted excellent Arabica varieties, iron pickup and bourbon, iron pickup coffee beans are recognized as boutique coffee varieties. The flavor is elegant, but the output is very low, and it is easy to be eroded by rust, so the price is high. Bourbon is an ancient variety of iron pickup. Bourbon coffee beans have excellent aroma, but their resistance to diseases and insect pests is very low.
The coffee beans produced in Fujian Province are Robusta. Fujian Province mainly produces tea, and the share of coffee is very small.
Hainan was the first to produce Robusta, and in recent years, driven by the trend of boutique coffee, Hainan has also introduced coffee beans such as Katim and iron pickup.
