The leading role of Taiwanese coffee

Today, Taiwan has developed a unique coffee culture. Walking along the streets of Taipei, cafes are three steps away and five steps away. In addition to large chain coffee shops, there are various small cafes hidden in alleys, forming a coffee culture landscape that makes people linger.

Unlike bars, which are associated with nightlife, intoxication and noise, cafes are sober, intellectual and quiet, providing modern urbanites with a place to communicate, a spiritual home, a space to linger and meditate."

Some Taiwanese coffee industry pointed out that coffee and its culture are imported from the West. Taiwan has already completed the introduction and localization of coffee culture in Europe, America and Japan one step ahead of the mainland. The acceptance process of this coffee culture in the mainland contains unlimited business opportunities. Therefore, Taiwanese coffee industry can act as a "springboard" between the mainland and Europe and play a leading role in the nearly blank coffee market in the mainland.

Since the late 1990s, coffee shops have sprung up in the streets of Beijing, Shanghai and other mainland cities. Among them, the well-known coffee chains or franchised shops such as Shangdao Coffee, Starbucks Coffee and Zhenguo Coffee are either founded by Taiwanese businessmen or invested and represented by Taiwanese businessmen, which has comprehensively promoted the rise and development of coffee culture in mainland China. The small, exquisite and unique coffee shops opened by Taiwanese businessmen further illustrate the romantic and elegant side of coffee culture, making coffee gradually popular in mainland China.

Coffee in Taiwan

Taiwan is located in the subtropical zone, mountainous territory, and there is a clear rainy season, for coffee, is not bad growing environment. However, since the introduction of coffee trees by the British during the Guangxu period, the planting scale has not been large. Small scale plantations are still being planted at Huisun Forest Farm in the Nantou Mountains (more than 1,000 meters above sea level), Hebao Mountain in Kukeng, Yunlin (294 meters above sea level), Kenting Park (Arabica species above sea level), the Department of Horticulture at National Taiwan University, the Chiayi Agricultural Laboratory (Liberia species above sea level), and the Hengchun Branch of the Provincial Forestry Laboratory (both species). The coffee beans of Hebao Mountain are similar to those of Central and South America, with soft acidity and good texture and balanced taste, while the coffee beans of Huisun Forest Farm are said to be less acidic. Taiwan used to have coffee trees of about 300 hectares, but all the products were consumed locally. At present, American coffee has been successfully grown in Taiwan, which shows that the coffee industry can develop in the region for a long time.
