About 1720-1723, the French naval officer, Division Gabriel. Mathieu. de Klee was ordered to station himself in Martinique. Before leaving Paris to take office, he managed to procure some coffee saplings and decided to take them back to Martinique. It took him two attempts to bring coffee saplings to Martinique. The saplings are kept on deck in a glass box with holes. Glass boxes not only prevent seawater from splashing on coffee saplings, but also play a role in insulation. According to Dekley's diary, his ship was attacked by pirates and storms many times. There was also a jealous man on board who tried to destroy his coffee saplings and even broke a branch in one fight. Finally, because the ship ran aground and there was not enough fresh water, he had to use what little drinking water he had to water the coffee saplings. After countless trials and tribulations, Dekley finally succeeded in protecting these coffee saplings.

de Klee eventually arrived safely in Martinique. He planted coffee trees, planted thorn bushes around them, and had slaves watch them day and night. The young trees finally took root, blossomed, and had their first harvest in 1726. It is said that in 1777 there were 18791680 coffee trees in Martinique. Some coffee was also shipped to Haiti, Santo Domingo and Guadeloupe. Decli did not live to see this achievement, however, and died in Paris on November 30, 1724, aged 88. He was not rich in his lifetime, but he was respected. In 1918 a monument was erected in his memory at Ford's Botanical Garden in Martinique.
