Brazil's COCAPEC predicts that coffee production by its members will fall by half in 2015

COCAPEC said the decline in coffee was mainly due to severe drought and the superposition of "small years" of coffee production. The output of coffee trees has a cycle every two years, with high yield in one year and low yield the next year. The COCAPEC Coffee Cooperative, which has 2200 farmers, is expected to produce about 1 million bags (60, 000 tons) in 2015, down by half from 2 million bags (120000 tons) last year. The COCAPEC Coffee Cooperative is the third largest coffee cooperative in Brazil, and its farmers are mostly in the area between Sao Paulo and Minas. Since last year, the severe drought has affected the branch growth of coffee trees and reduced production. COCAPEC also pointed out that the annual phenomenon of coffee production in the areas where their cooperatives are located is much more serious than in other regions, so the decline in the production of their cooperatives cannot be used to infer the coffee production of other coffee cooperatives.

Brazil is the world's largest coffee producer and exporter, producing about 45.3 million bags (about 2.718 million tons) of coffee in 2014. The Brazilian Coffee Commission expects the total Brazilian coffee production in 2015 to be between 40.3 million and 43.3 million bags.
