Coffee supply in the Russian market increased by nearly 80 per cent between 2009 and 2013
According to data from the Russian coffee market analysis and research released by BusinesStat, the supply of coffee in the Russian market increased by nearly 80% between 2009 and 2013, from 7.01t in 2009 to 12.55t in 2014. The supply of coffee on the market has been growing throughout the research period, with the largest increase in 2012, up 25% from the previous year. The increase in supply has also contributed to a significant increase in Russian domestic production. The production of finished products by Russian coffee producers in 2012 increased by 83.6% compared with 2011.
The biggest contribution to the total coffee supply in the Russian market is imported products. Between 2009 and 2013, imported coffee accounted for an average of 56.7 per cent of the total market supply. It must be pointed out that Russia does not produce coffee. Russian manufacturers can only process their products. Imported coffee is divided into "fried" and "unfried". The first kind of coffee is packaged and then entered the final consumer market. The second kind of unfried coffee requires extra processing-roasting. Between 2009 and 2013, the proportion of imported coffee was 47.5% and 52.5%, respectively.
Analysts estimate that the supply of finished products in the Russian coffee market will decline, while the supply of raw materials for industrial processing will increase. This trend is related to the development of roasting technology in Russian coffee production enterprises.
