Last Updated: 2025/08/21, It is not new for domestic automobile companies to cross the border, and many companies also engage in some "sidelines" while making cars, such as Chery Shipbuilding and Fukuda's involvement in the oil industry. But Yueda Group, one of Kia's domestic partners, did a sideline that had nothing to do with cold steel and oil. They chose to enter the catering industry and set up a joint venture with Costa.

Jiangsu Yueda Group is one of the key large state-owned enterprises in China, with automobile and textile as the two pillars. Dongfeng Yueda Kia, which we are familiar with, is a joint venture automobile company jointly established by Dongfeng Motor Company, Jiangsu Yueda Investment Co., Ltd., and Kia Automotive Co., Ltd., South Korea, with a share structure of 25%, 25%, 50%. In addition to the cooperation with Kashijia Costa, Yueda Group also cooperates with large enterprises such as Carrefour and Fuji heavy Industry of Japan.

I don't know much about coffee and Costa before, and the brands I know are limited to Starbucks. The focus on Costa Coffee began with the opening of his new store at Terminal T3 at Beijing Capital International Airport, which used to be Starbucks' territory. In addition, before entering the Chinese market, Ka Shijia spent three years doing market research. In addition to investigating the consumer market, Kashijia also chose two important partners: Hualian Group in the north and Yueda Group in the south.

In 2006, British Whitbread Group and Yueda Group invested 51% and 49% respectively to establish Yueda Kashijia (Shanghai) Catering Management Co., Ltd., which is responsible for the development and operation of Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Wuhan and other cities. At present, the exclusive operation area of the joint venture company has been expanded to 16 provinces, 2 cities and 1 special zone. Hualian Kashijia is set up by 50% each of British Whitbread Group and Hualian Group, which is responsible for the development and operation of Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong, Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang and other northern regions. The competition between Costa and Starbucks is very similar to that between McDonald's and KFC. The first thing to bear the brunt is the location of these two coffee shops. As long as there is Starbucks, there will be a Costa store not far away. And the decoration and service of these two places are also fashionable and cordial.
