Coffee Chronicle the Historical Development of Coffee Culture

In the Abyssinian plateau in the 6th century, a shepherd named Carl Dai, one day driving goats to the new grassland grazing, because of goat ingestion, and inadvertently found coffee fruit.

Dr. Dajes, a famous doctor in Iraq in the early 10th century, acknowledged and documented the pharmacological effects of coffee. This is a valuable medical record of coffee's earliest days.

In the 11th century Arabs invented a way to boil whole coffee berries into soup.

In the 13th century Arabs invented a method of roasting coffee beans.

1454 Athenian Saint Gai. Maruddin, unveils a method of drinking coffee previously known only to a small number of religious experts.

1510 Coffee arrived in Cairo, Egypt.

1530 Coffee is introduced to Damascus.

1554 Coffee arrives in Istanbul. In the same year, the world's first coffee shop was founded in Constantinople.

1616 Dutch Brook, bringing coffee from Arabic mocha to Holland.

1640 Dutch merchant Ulbergen completes the first coffee transaction from mocha shipment to Amsterdam.

In 1650 Oxford Street, England's first coffeehouse, the Jacob's Cafe, appeared.

1652 London's first coffee shop, Cafe Rossi, opens with a flyer entitled "The Benefits of Coffee", the world's first coffee advertisement.

1658 The Dutch begin to grow coffee in Ceylon.

1672 Armenian Baskar opens the first café in Paris.

1674 London women present a petition to the mayor, pointing out that husbands drink coffee and energy decline, affecting the relationship between spouses.

1689 Sicilian François? Procob opened the "Procob Cafe" in Paris, becoming a cultural salon where contemporary writers, thinkers and artists gathered, opening a new era of Parisian culture.

1714 Mayor of Amsterdam dedicates a coffee tree to King Louis XIV.

In 1720, on the Piazza San Marco in Venice, a "Florian Cafe" opened, which is the oldest surviving cafe.

1723 French officer Gabriel? Cleopatra took coffee trees from King Louis XIV's botanical gardens and brought them to America to plant on Martinique Island in the Caribbean Sea.

1727 Dutch Major de Melo Palheta obtains coffee seeds from Guyana and takes them to Brazil for cultivation.

1730 England begins growing coffee in Jamaica.

1732 Bach publishes his Coffee Oratorio.

1773 The Boston Tea Party Incident triggers the Revolutionary War, and Americans switch to coffee.

1880 British merchants grow coffee in Kenya and Uganda in East Africa.

1946 Italian Achigasha invents steam pressure coffee machine.

1960 Instant coffee invented in Japan.

1962 Coffee producing countries and coffee consuming countries establish the International Coffee Organization.

1969 Japan starts producing canned coffee.

1975 A deadly black frost in Brazil damaged millions of coffee trees and caused coffee prices to rise.
