The benefits of drinking coffee caffeine can improve learning ability
A team of researchers led by University College London professor Price, published in Nature, said adolescent IQ may rise or fall significantly, rather than being stable from childhood as previously widely believed.
"We have to be careful not to dismiss someone for poor childhood performance," Price said."In fact, over the years, their IQ may improve significantly."
At the same time, she reminded that children who were smart as children might not always be smart.
Combined with recent findings about changes in brain abilities, Price speculates that their findings don't just apply to children. IQ test results may also change significantly in adulthood. Plasticity may persist throughout life."
Tonic brain tonic is unreliable
A study from Duke University School of Medicine in the US suggests that hoping to eat nutrients to nourish your brain may make you depressed.
After years of research, researchers concluded that many so-called brain tonics containing vitamins B6, B12 or folic acid, which claim to keep the brain youthful, are in fact as effective as eating daily foods such as fish, fruits and vegetables.
The Duke University School of Medicine study concluded that there is insufficient evidence that antioxidant-rich foods improve intelligence.
Learn foreign languages to prevent dementia
Allenby Arestock, a cognitive neuroscientist at York University in Canada, found that speaking in two or more languages regularly stimulates activity in the prefrontal cortex, which increases problem-solving skills, improves IQ, and delays the onset and symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.
They studied 184 Alzheimer's patients treated at a Toronto clinic, 91 of whom were monolingual and 93 bilingual, and found that the average age at which symptoms appeared was 71.4 years for monolinguals and 75.5 years for bilinguals.
In another study, they studied 40 75-year-old Alzheimer's patients with the same cognitive level. Half of the patients were monolingual and half bilingual. Bialystock found that bilinguals suffered more damage to the temporal cortex, meaning that bilinguals did not cognitively worse than monolinguals when this area of the brain was more damaged than monolinguals.
Coffee and red wine work.
However, there has always been hope for some kind of magic food that makes people smarter, and research in this area has never stopped.
Serena Dudek, a researcher at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in the United States, found that caffeine can enhance activity in the CA2 region of the hippocampus, meaning that signals can be better transmitted in the brain, thus improving learning ability.
Some studies suggest pomegranate juice and turmeric, a spice commonly used in Indian and Thai cooking, may contain ingredients that enhance memory and cognitive function. In addition, researchers believe that dark chocolate and red wine also have a certain brain effect.
