The National Cancer Research Center of Japan issued a statement on the 7th, saying that after about 19 years of long-term follow-up, the agency's research team confirmed that drinking coffee and green tea can not only reduce the risk of death. it also plays a significant role in reducing the risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

To investigate the relationship between coffee and green tea intake and the risk of death, the center conducted a large-scale group survey of about 90,000 men and women between the ages of 40 and 69 over a period of 19 years, which ended in 2011.

In about 19 years of follow-up, 12874 people died. The team's analysis found that if the group "drank less than one cup of green tea a day" as the benchmark, among the group who "drank more than five cups of green tea a day", the risk of death decreased by 13% for men and 17% for women. With the increase of green tea intake, the risk of death decreased further.

Why does eating green tea reduce the risk of dying from heart disease? Researchers at the center say this may be due to the role of catechins in green tea, which is thought to regulate blood pressure, body fat and lipids.

In addition, the team divided subjects into five groups according to how often they drank coffee, from "almost nothing" to "five cups a day", and then investigated the relationship between these behaviors and the risk of death, as well as cancer and heart disease.

It was found that the group who drank three to four cups of coffee a day had the lowest risk of death, a full 24% reduction, based on the group that drank almost no coffee. The survey also shows that coffee intake can also reduce the risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and respiratory diseases.

The team speculates that this may be due to the fact that chlorogenic acid in coffee can improve blood sugar levels and regulate blood pressure, while caffeine can improve vascular endothelium.
