Drinking more than 4 cups of coffee a day can prevent recurrence of colon cancer
Drinking four or more cups of coffee a day can greatly reduce the risk of recurrence in patients with stage III colon cancer, a study said on the 17th, according to Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, Aug. 19, new media.
According to Agence France-Presse, Aug. 17, the study surveyed about 1000 patients with stage III colon cancer who had undergone surgery and chemotherapy.
Charles Fuchs, lead author of the study and director of the Dana-Farber Center for Gastrointestinal Cancer, said these patients had a 35% chance of relapse after treatment. Most of the recurrence occurred within 5 years after treatment. "We found that cancer patients who drank coffee had a lower risk of recurrence and a significantly higher chance of survival," Fuchs said in a statement announcing the findings. "
Other studies have also shown that coffee may be beneficial in the treatment of postmenopausal breast cancer, melanoma, liver cancer and advanced prostate cancer.
