Which countries and regions can grow coffee? What conditions do you need to grow coffee?
Since coffee trees are tropical plants, they need to be planted in warm places. The main planting area is distributed between latitude 25 °south and latitude 25 °north with the equator as the center, so this area is also known as the "coffee belt". However, even in the coffee belt, Arabica and Robeska do not grow in exactly the same area, but grow up in an environment that is more suitable for their own growth.
Robeska, which is relatively afraid of cold, is always planted in lowlands, while Arabica, which is afraid of heat, is mostly planted in highlands. If you plant far from the equator, you need to be planted in the lowlands, which is the common sense of growers. If planted in places with low temperatures, the harvest time tends to be longer. If coffee beans are planted in areas with large elevations or north-south directions, then the harvest time of coffee beans also tends to be longer.
Robeska is easier to grow than coffee trees grown in Arabica. Although compared with Arabica species, Robeska species is less resistant to drying, but it has low requirements for soil. Any kind of land can be cultivated successfully. Some lands do not live Arabica species, but Robeska species can be planted.
Arabica species need to choose soil before they can be planted. Not only need good drainage. A fluffy soil that allows the roots to grow fully. But also need fertile acid soil, from the cultivation, the region is very limited. As a result, some coffee growers will first plant Robeska in soil that is not suitable for Arabica, and then graft Arabica onto the trunk of Robeska.
Even in Japan, which is far away from the coffee belt, coffee trees can be planted. In fact, as early as the early Meiji period, the people of the Ogasawara Islands in Japan tried to cultivate coffee trees, and today, there is still small-scale production there. In addition, commercial coffee beans are also produced in Okinawa. If you use a greenhouse, coffee trees can be planted even on the island of Honzhou. I have planted coffee trees myself, and after three years of careful cultivation, I feel the fragrance of jasmine flowers that only seem to be smelled in the place of origin. Of course, a coffee tree can harvest several cups of coffee fruit, but the taste is not as strong. This also makes me personally feel that only in the right place, after careful cultivation and strict screening, can we grow high-quality coffee beans.
