The convenience of three-in-one instant coffee has increased the popularity of "drinking coffee". According to the survey, Taiwanese drink an average of about 120 cups of coffee per year, of which the most is three-in-one instant coffee (28%), followed by canned and ground coffee beans from convenience stores (21%).

But a lot of people who drink three-in-one instant coffee don't really look into quality. Wang Yu-wen, an assistant professor in the Department of Agronomy at National Taiwan University who teaches coffee science, observes that because three-in-one coffee is cheaper than ground coffee beans, consumers don't expect too much quality from low-priced products, and over time, some people don't care what they drink.

Have you ever wondered what is in instant coffee? "Health" collected 28 commercially available three-in-one, two-in-one and filter-hanging ground coffee products for analysis and comparison. From the perspective of food nutrition and coffee quality, the following reminders were proposed:

What you think is diet coffee is actually high fat.

Each person's daily intake of calories from fat should only account for 10 to 20% of total calories, and no more than 30% at most. When a product contains more than 30% fat calories, it falls into the dangerous category of "high fat," cautions Liu Qinyu, assistant professor of nutrition science at Fu Jen Catholic University.

Health found in its analysis that almost all coffees, whether three-in-one or two-in-one, have too much fat. Even more surprising is that behind the "sugar free" two-in-one coffee, in fact hidden behind the "high fat" truth. You might think sugar-free two-in-one coffee is healthier, but numbers speak, and two-in-one coffee has more than 30% fat calories.

The type of coffee you drink determines how much fat you eat, compared to filter ground coffee, which has almost zero fat.

Convenient 3 in 1, 2 in 1, 60-80% creamer and sugar

Creamer, sugar, coffee beans all have carbohydrates. Comparing carbohydrate content (carbohydrate density), it was found that the carbohydrate ratio of 3-in-1 and 2-in-1 was 6 to 8 times different from that of filter coffee, and the difference was sugar and coffee mate.

For example, filter coffee has a carbohydrate density of 0.1, which means that only 1 gram of coffee powder in a 10-gram packet is carbohydrate, and it comes from the coffee itself.

But three-in-one coffee is completely different, three-in-one coffee carbohydrate density as high as 0.7~0.8, that is, in a 20 g three-in-one coffee, there are 12~16 grams of carbohydrates, and mostly from sugar and coffee partners, almost like sugary drinks in general.

In addition to creamer and sugar, there are starches and spices

Liu Qinyu pointed out that the biggest problem with three-in-one coffee is creamer. Most three-in-one coffee ingredients are creamer, sugar, instant coffee, it seems simple ingredients, but in fact creamer contains glucose syrup, hydrogenated vegetable oil, sodium casein, stabilizers, emulsifiers, anti-caking agents and other artificial additives.

In addition to the complex composition of creamer, in fact,"three-in-one" coffee is "six-in-one" or even "seven-in-one." Because some products also add pigments, spices, salt, etc., some are mixed with maltodextrin, dextrin fiber and other starchy additives to increase the consistency of coffee, Liu Qinyu said. Among them, Benasson Classic Mantenin's sugar-free two-in-one coffee, also added sweetener maltitol.

In the plasticizer incident, all kinds of syrups and emulsifiers are artificial additives that make people smell color change; some sugar substitutes also have health hazards controversy. If you want to eat real food, stay away from artificial additives.
