Sources of raw materials: It is estimated that some 60 million people worldwide depend wholly or partly on the cultivation, transportation and processing of coffee for their livelihoods-a figure that accounts for 1 per cent of the world's population.
Most of these people live in developing countries, which are also the main producers of coffee in the world. Coffee consumption is mostly in industrialized countries. The coffee industry has thus become a major source of interest for those concerned with trade equity between developing and developing countries. Nestlé buys 12% of the world's annual coffee production each year as raw material for our range of coffee products. So naturally, to some extent, we can ensure that coffee growers get a fair price. In fact, if growing coffee doesn't pay off economically for farmers, they may grow something else, and we won't get good coffee beans. Nescafe coffee sold in China is refined from locally sourced, high-quality coffee beans at Nescafe's factories in China. Coffee cultivation in China is mainly distributed in the south. Coffee beans produced in Yunnan are of excellent quality and are the main source of Nescafe raw materials in China.
