Caffeine plus sugar improves brain cognitive function
According to foreign media reports, a new Spanish study published in the journal Human Psychopharmacology: Clinical and Experimental has found that drinking coffee with sugar is good for the brain and can improve memory and attention span.
Scientists at the University of Barcelona in Spain have found that consuming caffeine and sugar together improves brain productivity more than consuming caffeine alone or sugar alone. Caffeine and sugar promote each other, improving brain functions such as attention span and working memory.
The researchers gave 40 participants MRI scans of their brains after drinking sweetened coffee, unsweetened coffee, sugar or plain water. A cup of sweetened coffee in the morning was the best way to cope with a busy day, the study found.
The researchers pointed out that, on the one hand, caffeine has an exciting effect, which can stimulate the brain to work and fight drowsiness and fatigue. Earlier studies have found that drinking three cups of coffee a day significantly reduces Alzheimer's disease, and the key role is that caffeine triggers a chain reaction in the brain that prevents damage to brain tissue. Glucose, on the other hand, is one of the main "fuels" necessary for brain cells to function properly.
New research has found that caffeine and sugar complement each other and are more effective in improving brain cognitive function. Using standard tests to measure attention span and working memory, and MRI scans of their brains, the researchers found that drinking sweetened coffee significantly reduced activity in the bilateral parietal cortex and left prefrontal cortex, brain regions responsible for attention and memory, meaning the brain worked more efficiently
