Ambassador of Jamaica: never exported coffee beans to China
Next, let's take a look at the latest news of Blue Mountain Coffee. A few days ago, our program reported that the sales of Blue Mountain Coffee in the market are all knockoffs, which makes many consumers who like to drink coffee angry, spending the money of Blue Mountain Coffee, but drinking cheap beans in the market. While we are angry, we are also asking such a question: is there an authoritative department that can tell us whether China has ever imported Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee? To this end, our reporter specially interviewed the Jamaican Ambassador to China today. Understand the planting environment, yield and export of pure blue mountain coffee. Let's listen to his introduction.
Courtney Rattray, Jamaican ambassador to China, said: introduce the growing environment of Blue Mountain Coffee and the annual output.
In previous interviews, many coffee shops and coffee wholesalers, including Shangdao Coffee, said that their Blue Mountain coffee beans were imported from abroad and roasted by themselves.
Coffee wholesaler: we bake this by ourselves in China.
Shangdao coffee staff: domestic self-baking
But Ambassador Rattray told us that so far, Jamaica has not exported raw beans directly to China. The so-called import of raw beans from abroad, domestic baking is obviously a lie.
Ambassador Rattray also said that even imported roasted cooked beans must have the Blue Mountain Coffee logo of the Jamaica Coffee Industry Authority printed on the outer package. And the reporter from the Shangdao coffee and wholesale market to buy the blue mountain coffee beans on the outer packaging, there is no such sign.
Courtney Rattray, Jamaican ambassador to China: the logo of Blue Mountain Coffee and two necessary proofs.
Beijing: Shangdao coffee is still selling fake blue mountains
Consumers who like to drink Blue Mountain Coffee may be disappointed after listening to the Ambassador of Jamaica. Perhaps all the so-called Blue Mountain Coffee that you have drunk in domestic cafes is fake. Since there is no real Blue Mountain Coffee in China, does the coffee shop restrain from selling fake Blue Mountain Coffee to deceive consumers? Today, our reporter visited some Shangdao coffee shops in Beijing again and found that Shangdao Cafe is still peddling fake Blue Mountain coffee.
In Shangdao Coffee on Jinbao Street in Beijing, the reporter opened the menu and found that there were still 38 yuan and 68 yuan a cup of Blue Mountain coffee. It is not marked as Blue Mountain coffee on the menu. The reporter asked the waiter that they had not received the rectification notice from the headquarters at present.
Beijing Shangdao Coffee Jinbao Street waiter: the head office has not informed us yet, and there are no suggestions for rectification.
In the program last weekend, we have already introduced that the price of a real Blue Mountain coffee per pound is about 2000 yuan, and the retail price of a cup of coffee is at least more than 100 yuan before the store can make a profit, while the most expensive cup of the so-called Blue Mountain coffee sold on the island is only 68 yuan. In terms of price, this is obviously not the real Blue Mountain.
Manager of Jinbao Coffee Street in Shangdao, Beijing: we are the less advanced beans that are basically sold on the island. No matter which family it is, there is no real Blue Mountain.
In order to understand the views of some Shangdao franchise stores selling fake Blue Mountains, the reporter went to the head office of Shangdao Coffee near Sanlitun in Beijing, where the staff first chose to avoid and shut the reporter out. Under the reporter's repeated requests, the person in charge of the Beijing head store finally accepted the interview.
Manager Zhao, head of Shangdao Coffee Store in Beijing: it's no problem that we don't manage the coffee beans.
Shangdao headquarters refuses to stop selling Blue Mountain Coffee.
We know that Shangdao Coffee comes from a chain of franchisees in Taiwan. at present, Shangdao Coffee franchises already have nearly 700 chain franchises in China. It should be said that such a large company can restrain franchisees to be responsible to consumers. So how to explain the franchisee's behavior of selling fake Blue Mountain Coffee and deceiving consumers? Our reporter contacted the Shanghai headquarters of Shangdao Coffee to hear what they had to say.
The reporter saw at the scene that although he was in the public opinion whirlpool of impersonating "fake coffee" as authentic Blue Mountain Coffee, the headquarters of Shangdao Coffee was surprisingly calm. When the reporter contacted the person in charge of Island Coffee and asked him to verify face-to-face the company's views on the authenticity of "Blue Mountain Coffee," the other side unexpectedly said that the company did not need to make a positive response. He thought that Shangdao Coffee was indeed making its own Blue Mountain Coffee for sale, but he thought there was nothing wrong with this kind of behavior.
Reporter: will Blue Mountain Coffee be removed from the shelves? Or will it continue to sell?
Director Liu of Shangdao Coffee China headquarters Office: how can it be removed from the shelves? Why are you off the shelves?
Reporter: you mean, from the beginning to the end, there have been no mistakes on this side of the island?
Director Liu: there are no mistakes. We do it through the requirements of the quality Supervision Bureau and through the relevant units of the state, and we will not do it by ourselves.
But when which department and which quality supervision bureau agreed to Shangdao Coffee to sell fake Nanshan Coffee, the person in charge could not give any answer, and he even explained that even if all the coffee in Jamaica was sold to Shangdao, it would not be enough. As a result, their company began to mix its own so-called Blue Mountain coffee more than a decade ago. He believes that when consumers see the words "on the island" marked on the outer package of coffee beans, they will understand that it is self-made on the island and is the flavor of Blue Mountain coffee. As for whether it is a real Jamaican Nanshan coffee, he thinks it is a matter of consumers' understanding. Moreover, he also said that the Shangdao chain stores all over the country do not necessarily use this kind of coffee beans produced by the headquarters. therefore, if a Shangdao coffee shop uses the word "Jamaica" to promote this kind of Nanshan coffee, it is only each branch's own fault, it has nothing to do with the headquarters, and it is very difficult for the headquarters to manage.
