El Burro vs La Mula

In the Poquete region of Chiriquí Province of Panama, both are located in Portrerilos, on the southern slope of the Baru volcano. At an altitude of about 1700-1800 meters, the terrain in this area is steep, there are a large number of native trees as shade trees, and clouds surround, effectively prolonging the growth cycle of coffee. The soil is volcanic soil with high potassium and phosphorus content and rich organic matter.

Donkey Manor has a history of nearly 100 years, because the original manor is located in the breeding of livestock, so the manor owner planted coffee after the donkey (El Burro) for its name. Donkey Manor's varieties include rose summer and kaduai, coffee cherries are processed at Alida Manor (same estate owner). Mule Manor, on the other hand, grows only summer roses, while coffee cherries are transported to nearby processing plants for processing.

Mule Manor was bought by William Bute in 2005 and coffee farming has been under way since 2007. He said he first went to the estate on a mule (La Mula) because it was named Mule Estate.

As two coffees grown in the same environment but treated differently, each has its own flavor. Donkey Farm offers a wider variety of varieties and treatments, while Mule Farm features sun-cured summer roses.

This year Grand Cru Coffee traveled to Panama as early as March to select four batches of two varieties and three treatments from the donkey farm (Kaduai only sun-treated); it also selected the sun-treated batch with the most outstanding tropical fruit flavor from the mule farm. At the same time, try to get to the beans of two BOP Changsheng Manor, which will surely make everyone better understand these two manors.

Compared with the famous Emerald Estate, the donkey estate with low yield is more mysterious. The donkey estate located in Panama's Poquet region is located on the southern slope of Baru volcano. The soil is rich in organic matter, and the altitude is steep. The clouds are surrounded all the year round, which creates the unique terroir characteristics of the estate coffee. Although the name of the estate is very grounded, the coffee it cultivates has performed well. In recent years, Donkey Farm has won many awards in the Best Panama Competition (BOP) and gained fame.

In 2016, Japanese Maruyama coffee barista Suzuki won the championship of the Japanese Barista Competition (2016JBC) with this washed rose from Donkey Manor.
