"is there a risk of cancer in filter coffee? The topic of Jiang Shoushan's appeal to the people to pay more attention has aroused discussion in the past few days, and it was mentioned in the news that "under the hot water, the paper was not broken, mainly because this piece of paper was added with wet strength agent." it was wrong.

Although the paper is wetted, the strength of resistance to separation or fracture between the fibers will be weakened, so the fiber filter paper in the laboratory will add a wet strength agent to enhance the cross-linking between the fibers, so as to improve the tensile strength of the paper in the wetting state.

However, filter-hanging coffee uses non-woven filter bags instead of paper fibers. at present, most of these non-woven filter bags on the market are imported from Japan, because the most common 'Pachit bag' double-ear design patent on the market belongs to Japan's Daji Commercial Co., Ltd.

The reason why it is not easy to damage in the presence of water is not due to the addition of wet strength agent, but the material of this non-woven fabric is PET → "Drip Bag for Single Serve Coffee 'Pachit bag'". PET already has excellent toughness, tensile resistance and water resistance, so there is no need to add wet strength agent. If you have observed the brewing process of this kind of filter bag, the extracted coffee liquid is leaking through round or rectangular holes, because the fiber layer at these holes is thinner, while other thicker parts play the role of strong tensile resistance. Therefore, this news is a false proposition that does not exist. Since this is the case, there is no doubt about whether wet strength agents cause cancer.

But this gives rise to a new problem. PET is the raw material for making treasure bottles, so will the plasticizer dissolve when making coffee? Can it withstand high temperature?

The former does not have this doubt, because PET is a thermoforming plastic, so no plasticizer is added. However, PET is not resistant to high temperature, it can only withstand about 60-85 ℃, so it is not suitable to be used as a non-woven filter bag material in high-temperature environment. Polypropylene (PP) with a capacity of 100-140 ℃ should be changed to be safe.

So do you have PP's unwoven cloth? Yes, Japan Yamanaka Industrial Co., Ltd. uses PP material → "COFFEE MIRACRON". In fact, this company is the original inventor of hanging-ear coffee, but it was designed to be located only on one side, and consumers generally responded poorly after using it, because the mouth of the bag was not wide enough to brew water at once.

Later, Daji Commercial Co., Ltd. improved this defect and re-applied for a patent, which became the most common type of ear hanging at present. However, Yamanaka Industrial Co., Ltd. later made a comeback and changed the non-woven PET material to a safer PP material. Daji Commercial Co., Ltd. is not a fuel-efficient lamp, introducing biodegradable non-woven materials. Then Yamanaka Industry followed → "woven mesh filter", so the two giants fought each other so that we coffee lovers could not take their eyes off and applaud! The stories of competition in shopping malls are colorful, but there is only one conclusion: the non-woven material of filter-hung coffee has no risk of cancer.
