95% of the coffee beans produced in Papua New Guinea are Arabica grown in the highlands. In 2004, 90% of Papua New Guinea was produced by garden coffee in small coffee farms or villages, with about 20,600 coffee trees per house. most of these small farmers do not use chemical pesticides or artificial fertilizers.
In Papua New Guinea, about 75 per cent of coffee products come from these small local farms. Many small farmers reclaim their land in the forest, and some are in the depths of the forest, almost isolated from the rest of the world.
