If you ask who introduced Panamanian coffee to Europe, the name of the Norwegian Tollef Bache M ö nniche will surely be mentioned. M ö nniche, the engineer who built the Panama Canal, founded Finca Lerida Estate in 1922, which pioneered the sale of Panamanian coffee to Europe.

M ö nniche discovered the legendary journey of the manor. Suffering from wet wetland malaria during the Panama Canal project, he is looking forward to finding a place where the air is clean and he can rest and recuperate. Once he sailed along the Pacific coast for seven days and then rode ashore. It took him several hours to find Lelida, which happened to be surrounded by the Baru Volcano volcano, about 10 kilometers above Boquete. At that time, it was half grass and half forest.

In 1924, M ö nniche finally retired from the Panama Canal project and settled at Ralida Manor with his wife Julia. He built a Norwegian country-style house with his bare hands and built Panama's first coffee processing plant. He patented the "sifon siphon principle" to separate good coffee fruits from bad ones, which is still used in Ralida's old processing plant. Since M ö nniche graduated from the Royal Dresden College in Germany, he sold Lelida coffee to Germany in 1929, establishing the brand image of high-quality Panamanian coffee in Europe.

Leilida Manor is located in today's most famous Pokuit producing area, with an altitude of 1600 meters to 1800 meters. It is located in an area surrounded by forests and ecologically diverse. The volcanic soil is full of nutrients, very fertile, abundant rainfall, and a great temperature difference between morning and night. It has a microclimate that is very suitable for coffee growth. In 1957, the Collins family bought the estate and managed it more carefully. The delicate harvest time planning, strict monitoring of washing and fermentation and natural sun control make the coffee produced here perform well in terms of thickness and acidity. Lailida is not only a coffee farm, but also a famous ecological leisure hotel with beautiful scenery and perfect facilities, attracting many tourists every year.
