Introduction
Kenya is located in eastern Africa, although it is close to Ethiopia, the native place of coffee, but the mass cultivation of coffee trees did not begin until the 20th century. The earliest coffee farms in Kenya were mostly near the capital Nairobi, in the form of large estates that were bought by the British colonial ruling class at that time and employed local aborigines.
Then, with the expansion of downtown Nairobi, the coffee plantations around Nairobi gradually disappeared, and the cultivated area developed to the foothills of Kenya in the northeast, all the way from Thika to Meru 200km away. With the withdrawal of the colonists and the rise of small farmers, producers now account for 40% and 60% of the production of large estates and small farmers respectively. But in principle, raw beans from any producer are sent to the official coffee bidding office for auction: the bidding bureau places samples of the raw beans to be auctioned in the sample room for interested buyers to obtain, and auctions are held every Tuesday (that is, the weekly NCE auction).
Before the bidding, Kenyan coffee is almost always a single producer's micro-batches, small batches may only be 2-300 kilograms, large batches only a few tons. Each lot must be divided into AA / AB / C / PB / TT / T / E / HE according to quality and size according to the regulations of the bidding Bureau. Only with such specifications can we bid.
This FAQ (Fair Average Quality) AA, through local exporters, entered NCE bidding to bid for several batches of AA batches of medium-to-high quality but relatively economical price, fully mixed and then packaged. This raw bean is a mixture of micro-batches from several Kenyan foothills that belong to medium-and high-altitude coffee plantations, balancing the characteristics of each district while still retaining a typical Kenyan coffee with high acidity and bright rich style.
