Coope Tarrazu is a cooperative founded in 1970. The farm is located in the heart of Tarrazu, near the town of San Marcos. The growing area is located just behind the plant on the slopes of a volcano with an average elevation of about 1450 meters. Beginning in November each year, coffee farmers hike up the hill to inspect coffee plantations and manually pick fully ripe red fruit, which is then sent to a processing yard below. The Shepherd Boy Plant uses traditional water washing to process raw beans, and the Rio Pirris River, which flows beside the plant, provides abundant and clean water for the plant.
