Santa Lucia sun in Santa Lucia, Brazil

Delicious Brazil is really rare! Especially in Brazil, which can be made by hand and drink comfortably, which is why Brazilian coffee is rarely put on the shelves by roasters.

This very unique Santa Lucia Manor (Santa Lucia) won sixth in the 2016 Brazilian Cup of Excellence Cup, with a high score of 89.53 by international judges, only less than 1 point (90.50) short of the first place. If you know how competitive the Brazilian extraordinary Cup is, you will probably be looking forward to this coffee.

The owner of Santa Lucia is Alexander Garcia (Alexandre Alvarenga Garcia). When he bought the 62-hectare estate in 1994, it was mainly used as a pasture. In 1998, the Garcia family first started growing coffee, growing only 8 hectares. So far, the manor has a total of 123 hectares, of which 30 hectares grow coffee, with an average annual yield of only 1000 bags. Other parts of the manor have primeval forests, pastures, lakes, springs, protected water sources, and a very good environment. The manor is 1250 meters above sea level, which is quite high in Brazil.

The coffee produced in Santa Lucia shows excellent flavor and strong sweetness from the harvest season of 2016. The nearby Serra das Abelhas Mountains bring microclimatic conditions (terroir), which interact with bean species, giving the coffee a special and complex flavor. Coffee fresh fruit is picked manually, which is relatively rare in Brazil, and the screening after picking is also carried out manually. The bean seed is Arcaya, and the whole fruit is dried in the sun field for 14 days.

Acaia

The coffee variety Arcaya (Acaia) is a fairly rare bean variety from a natural variety of Mundo Novo, which itself is bred from two ancient beans: bourbon and Tibica (hybrid). Arcaya's tree is very special, triangular, the sun can evenly shine on the fresh fruit, the yield is very large, and is very suitable for mechanical harvesting; the disadvantage is that it is very easy to get coffee diseases and insect pests. Acaia in the local aboriginal language means "big fresh fruit", big fruit and big leaves, is a very bold and unrestrained variety of coffee!

Arcaya seems to be particularly suitable for the local climate of Brazil, especially at an altitude of more than 800m. It has an excellent flavor and often wins the Brazilian Cup of Excellence Cup. Once transplanted to other countries, such as El Salvador, it is not easy to survive, the quality change is also quite large, so far, rarely seen outside Brazil.
