Ethiopian coffee producing kafapita estate, sun haloba, kocher washed beans hamma beans flavor characteristics?
Ethiopian coffee can be divided into several main producing areas: Haramocha (sun exposure), Kafa virgin forest (sun exposure), Sidamo (sun exposure), Yegashev (water washing)
As for fine coffee grades, sun exposure is Gr.1 and Gr.3, washing is Gr.1 and Gr.2
Around 2010 Ethiopia coffee production and marketing has a revolutionary impact, the so-called Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (YCFCU) was established to provide stable quality coffee beans, other small cooperatives also because of green bean processing plant production equipment and upgrade, these years Ethiopia has a very good stable quality coffee beans…
The Yegashev Coffee Farmers Union Cooperative (YCFCU) represents 26 cooperatives located in the Gedeo district of southern Ethiopia, distributed in the towns of Yegashev, Jedip, Wanago, Kocher, etc. The Yegashev Coffee Farmers Union Cooperative plays an extremely important role in the development of Ethiopian coffee farmers from poverty to self-sufficiency.
Ethiopia's small coffee farmers generally have no more than one hectare of cultivated area, and the harvest of green coffee beans is very small. Small farmers cannot support themselves and their families by growing coffee alone, and they also need to grow other cash crops to survive. Before the establishment of YCFCU, the raw beans harvested by small farmers were still traded externally through ECX. When the essence of ECX was to mix all products and grade them and sell them internationally at market prices, although small farmers could get better profits than those who were severely stripped in the past, they could not really get increased profits from the transaction because of excellent products. Over time, such a situation would inevitably lead to the decline of the quality of coffee beans. The mixed grading system also made it impossible for foreign buyers to trace the history and terroir information of Yegashev coffee beans, so organizations like YCFCU Co-operative, which were established to stabilize the fluctuation of coffee prices and improve the quality of Yegashev coffee and the profits of small farmers, were born.
YCFCU is a coffee exporter recognized by the Ethiopian government. Small coffee farmers in Gedeo are free to join or not. It is also a system jointly maintained by grass-roots farmers. On the one hand, farmers are exempted from unequal treatment by private processing plants. On the other hand, it also provides a channel for international buyers to directly face village cooperatives. Ethiopia has a large area of natural wild forest, 90% of coffee growing land can be found in the forest, the use of natural shade methods, and intercropping methods contribute to the development of Yegashev coffee flavor, achieve excellent agricultural results and sustainable management.
The establishment of YCFCU Co-operative realizes the goal of international buyers who are eager to provide a complete history of Ethiopian coffee from origin to cup, and also allows the members of the cooperative to gradually improve the education and quality of life in the village for reasonable profits.
