The Republic of Kenya, located in the Rift Valley of East Africa, is anthropologically considered to be one of the birthplaces of human beings.

Except for the plain terrain along the coast, most of the rest of the land is plateau topography with an elevation of more than 1500 meters. The East African Rift Valley has cut the Kenyan plateau in half, in addition to the formation of many lakes. It also makes volcanic activity in Kenya very frequent.

Kenya is a natural country full of wild to me.

The natural environment is an excellent place for coffee. In the 19th century, Kenya began to grow coffee from Bourbon and Kent in India, as well as coffee trees from Typica. But what really fascinates people is the later bourbon mutant SL-28 and SL-34, which are not only the winners at Kenyan auctions, but also the criteria by which boutique coffee fans define the flavor of Kenyan coffee.

Mtaro Manor is located in Thika District, about 40 kilometers north of the Kenyan capital Nairobi, where the altitude, soil and climatic conditions are very suitable for coffee trees. The name of the manor is interesting because it is named after the ditch used by the coffee farm to divert water for irrigation. In the local aboriginal language, "Mtaro" means ditch.

They grow coffee in a UTZ-certified way and have strict control over the use of pesticides to minimize the negative impact on the natural environment in agricultural activities. For pest management, they use the "integrated pest management (IPM)" approach to effectively reduce the incidence of diseases and insect pests. For soil and water conservation, they carry out planned planting in conjunction with other soil and water conservation plans, such as covering crops.

Coffee is harvested twice a year, from April to September and from October to December, all by hand, ensuring the best maturity of the harvested coffee. The treatment is carried out by full water washing, which Kenya is good at, and the treated wastewater is discharged into a filter to be filtered by the soil, and the removed pulp of coffee cherries is also used as compost.

In addition to its concern for the natural environment, Montalo Manor also takes good care of its employees, who enjoy good medical care, education and living quality. and through communication by the committee to ensure that welfare measures are actually implemented, so that employees can work without worries.

The Kenyan coffee Mtaro in my hand has a big and beautiful bean body. I baked the beans at the end of an explosion. The dry aroma is very exquisite, with a touch of citrus flowers and obvious fruit tonality.

The first method of extraction, hand-washed at 85 ℃, has the acidity of fresh plums and berries. With the change of temperature, the sour taste of flowers and fruits makes people feel very comfortable, and the thick BODY also makes me look forward to the taste of the mocha pot.

After I switched to a mocha kettle for extraction, I found that the sour taste became heavier, and the originally thick fruit became more solid, with a vaguely fermented taste of sun beans, and the overall taste was skewed towards the middle and back. It has a very good taste of chocolate, cocoa and nuts.
