Rio Cristal belongs to the Kotowa family. Panamanian coffee brand Kotowa has four estates, Duncan and Don K. These two estates are very close to each other. The elevation of the two estates is about 1500 Murray 1700 Las Brujas (Witch Manor), which Kotowa has bought in recent years, with an elevation of more than 1900.
And the award-winning Rio Cristal (Crystal River Manor), which is also relatively high above sea level, is a new manor, located on the northeast side of Boquete, very close to the continental divide. It has a unique microclimate because the farm has little rainfall in the Pacific between May and December, while it rains mostly in the Atlantic Ocean between January and February. Rio Cristal is located at 1800 meters, but close to the continental boundary, and the temperature may be lower than other similar elevations, dropping to about 9 °C at night. Rio Cristal, located on the western slope of the continental divide, is usually very sunny in the morning, but slightly windy due to the influence of the Atlantic Ocean.
The farm is managed on the basis of ecological principles, does not use herbicides or pesticides, and prepares fertilizers to compensate for soil acidity and nutrition levels. It combines nitrogen, potassium, magnesium, zinc, sulfur and calcium during growth, especially during cherry ripening. These elements are important in the formation of flower and fruit aromas.
